Jaya Jagannatha!

 

Little while ago there was a discussion about Lord Caitanya and the question came up about the references about His advent in this Kali Yuga.

That was mentioned in Bhavisya Purana and also in Chaitanya Upanisad which is part of Atharva Veda. There are also few other references where Lord Caitanya is mentioned as hidden avatar because He doesn't comes as God but as His devotee. That's why some schools don't accept Him as avatar but only as a great saint.

Actually His whole life was very intricate and only few of His confidential associates could understand that He was actually God Himself playing a role of his own bhakta. Now all this gets even more esoteric when we know that Lord Caitanya has mood of Srimati Radharani and Her complexion too while at the same time He is purusa. Sometimes on the confidential "parties" in Srivasa Thakuar's courtyard while everyone was in the kirtan dancing and chanting the holy names of Krishna, Lord Caitanya would go into state of ecstasy or trans and in that state only before His confidential associated he would exhibit forms of Nrsimhadeva, Varaha, Rama and other avataras of Krishna. Otherwise especially in public He would always play a role of a humble devotee of Lord Krishna.

 

Considering all this Lord Caitanya was bound to be misunderstood by masses of people. Example can be His disappearance; different people saw Him merging in the body of Lord Jagannatha in the main temple in Puri, while others saw him disappearing in the ocean in Puri at the same time, and some talk about seeing Him while disappearing into the crack on the knee of the Tota Gopinatha Deity in Puri also in the same time. If we know that He is all-powerful creator, sustainer and destroyer of all 3 words and much beyond that, than why would be impossible for him to disappear at only 3 different places at the same time?

 

And one thing is for sure that Lord Caitanya is the most merciful of all avatars of Krishna and even more merciful than Krishna Himself. When Krishna appeared 5000 years ago by His arrangement He wiped out the demoniac people (mainly ksatriyas) for the face of the Earth. If He would come now, He would have to kill everyone, but instead Lord Caitnaya gave everyone unique gift consisting of the holly names of Krishna: "Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare" that have the power to change demoniac mentality of people and awaken their dormant love of God.
