Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha Dear List, Namaste Some of you have requested for a quick lesson in Kota Cakra. The first part is written by Pradeep Gaurav. The rest is within easy grasp. I was going to send this tomorrow, but I may be too busy. Love, Swee Om Gurave Namah Kota Chakra Kota literally means a fort. Kota chakra is an arrangement of 28 Nakshatras in to different segments in such a way that importance of different nakshatras for a particular native can be highlighted and transit of planets in these nakshatras can be easily interpreted. Please refer to the Kota chakra drawn into JHora. The nakshatra in the top left corner (north east) is your moon’s nakshatra. This chakra starts from there. You can find from the chakra how the nakshatras are placed sequentially. Stambha (Pillar): This is the innermost portion of kota chakra. This is the most sensitive portion and malefics transiting in this area can do serious harm to the native in a bad dasha. So Watch for Sa, Mars, Ra, Ke in this area for the time of analysis. The next three blocks are called as Madhya(Central), Prakara(Boundary) & Bahya(outer portion) respectively. The more malefics in the outer area the better and vicevesra for benefics. Kota swami(kota lord): Moon’s dispositor. Ideally kota swami is best placed inside the stambha. He can fight any malefics even if placed in the stambha. If he is in prakara(outside), and malefics can play havoc if they enter the stambha. Kota pala (Guard): I will depend on the calculation of JHora for this. Ideally he is better placed in the prakara (outside). An important thing is to right click on the chakra and specify the transit date you are interested to analyse. The Kota Chakra is used for health issues and death, and also for defeat or victory in battle. The chakra is drawn as follows using the 28 Naksatra scheme: 1. Put the Janma Naksatra into the North Eastern (upper left) corner of the chakra. 2. Then put the three Naksatras following it in the diagonal heading to the center. 3. Then the next four on the vertical line coming from inside out. Then the next four starting from 5. The southeastern (upper right) corner to the inside, and so on. Therefore the Naksatras on the diagonals will be the directions (or paths) leading into the Kota (fort) and the Naksatras on the vertical and horizontal lines are the ones leading out of the fort. 6. Rahu and Ketu are always in retrograde motion, hence the entrances and the exit points for both, are always the opposite (the same applies for other retrograde planets). How To Use the Four parts of Kota Chakra: 1. Stambha or pillar consists of the four Naksatras in the center of the Chakra (like the Bindu). Malefics in here can cause much trouble and distress, especially if it coincides with a malefic Dasa. (The Mahadasa gives general indications, but the antardasa is more realistic. The pratyantardasa gives the actual event). 2. Madhya or Durgantara, is the inside of the fort. The same is true as for the Stambha, although it's somewhat less fatal. 3. Prakara or wall. Watch out for malefics entering and benefics leaving. Both will weaken the fort. 4. Bahya or exterior. Malefics give no harm here unless they are in a Naksatra forming an entrance (i.e. in one of the corners), as this indicates that the planet will soon attack the fort. 5. Side note: While judging the position of the planets in the Kota chakra on a given transit date, the functionality of the planets in transit should also be considered, as a benefic may also become functionally malefic or a Maraka in the transit chart. Kota Swami and Kota Pala 1. Kota Swami is the lord of the fort. This is the planet which is the lord of the Moon sign (Janma Rasi). 2. How to calculate Kota Pala (protector of the fort): a) Find out the Janma Nakshatra Pada. b) Find the akshara (syllable) connected to it. c) Find out the planet which is the lord of that syllable. Here is a table that woudl help to find the Kota Pala if the Janma Nakshatra Pada is known: Janma Nakshatra Kota pala for the four padas I. II. II. IV. 1. Asvini Venus Venus Venus Moon 2. Bharani Moon Moon Moon Moon 3. Krittika Sun Sun Sun Sun 4. Rohini Sun Moon Moon Moon 5. Mrigashira Moon Moon Mars Mars 6. Ardra Mars Mars Mars Venusz 7. Punarvasu Mars Mars Rahu Rahu 8. Uttarabhadra Jupiter Jupiter Venus Venus 27. Revati Jupiter Jupiter Venus Venus The Kota Pala for Abhijit is Venus. Interpretation of Kota Chakra 1. Malefics inside indicate bad events, while benefics inside give protection. 2. You should consider whether the planets are on the exiting or entering roads, and whether they are direct or retrograde. 3. If analysing a certain event, check the connection of the planets giving trouble to the Karya Bhava of the event in the birth chart. 4. Kota Swami is favourable if he is inside, while Kota Pala may give protection if he is outside. 5. According to some books, The Moon is the Gadadhisa (lord of the fort) while the Sun is the Vestadhisa (lord of the enemy). If the Sun is inside or entering, and the Moon is outside or leaving, then this is unfavourable. 6. You should note that the transit of the planets over the Naksatras is not so fast, especially for the nodes, Jupiter and Saturn, so they would generally indicate periods of illness or sorrow lasting for a couple of months, therefore other predictive techniques should be used to fine-tune timing.
