Guest guest
Namaste friends, I wrote in message #5337 (vedic astrology list) on November 9: " In an article in EST, I pointed out that US has 8th lord Rahu in Cancer lagna in the lunar new year charts of 1999- 2000 and 2000-01. Nothing happened last year, but this year Rahu in lagna is giving some turmoil in his Vimsottari dasa. In Vimsottari dasa compressed to mundane charts, I do not take dasa sesham (remainder at birth). As per my calculations, Rahu's Vimsottari dasa of this lunar year runs from October to mid-December. I will not be surprised if some turmoil/commotion continues till mid-December. " . The turmoil related to US Presidential election impasse ended exactly when Rahu's dasa ended. I will share some calculations with you. * * * A new lunar month starts when Sun and Moon conjoin. Each month gets its name based on the rasi in which the conjunction takes place. The conjunction in Pisces starts Chaitra month and a new year. So we cast a chart at the time of exact Sun-Moon conjunction in Pisces every year at world capitals to find out the fortune of the nation as a whole for that year. Solar new year charts and lunar new year charts are good at showing different kinds of things. As Moon shows mind, masses and money, lunar new year charts are very important in timing mass movements, general mood of the nation and financial conditions, among other things. Vimsottari dasa can be compressed to the time period of a lunar year. If a lunar year has 360 days, then we have to compress each year in Vimsottari dasa to 3 days. Then 120 years are compressed to 120x3=360 days. Based on my research, I prefer not to consider any dasa sesham (dasa remainder) in the first dasa and let the whole of the dasa come at once. For example, suppose Moon is in a star of Venus and only 50% of the star *remains* to be traversed (i.e. Moon is in the middle of the star). In natal charts, we take the initial dasa of Venus to be 50% of full amount - 20 years - and hence take only 10 years of Venus dasa. Then 6 years of Sun dasa will come. However, in mundane charts, I suggest taking the whole of the first dasa at once. In this example, we let the whole of 20 years (actually, compressed to 20x3=60 days) of Venus dasa come once, at the beginning of the lunar year. * * * We can interpret mundane charts and dasas just like in normal charts. The re-interpreted meanings of houses I sent in a previous mail may be used. Let us look at US lunar new year chart of 2000-01. * * * Sun and Moon conjoined at 21 deg 25' 24 " in Pisces on April 4, 2000 at 2:12:35 pm (EDT). If we cast a chart at this time at Washington DC, 17 deg 43' in Cancer rises. Rahu at 6 deg in Cancer afflicts lagna. From Cn, Rahu is the 8th lord (co-lord of Aq). Being the 8th lord in lagna, he negatively affects the general state of affairs in the nation. With Cancer being a watery sign, Rahu's affliction of Cancer lagna shows that some " emotional " turmoil may be faced by US in Rahu dasa. As Moon is in Mercury's constellation (Revati), first dasa of Mercury is for 17x3=51 days (approx). Using exact calculations (taking the exact length of lunar year into account instead of approx 360 days), I get Rahu dasa from Oct 23, 2000 (4:01 am EST) to Dec 14, 2000 (3:08 am). During Rahu dasa, US was deeply divided and the nation became sensitive (Cancer) about the issue. There were partisan attacks and turmoil (Rahu) that affected the general mood of the nation (1st house). Gore's concession came in the night of Dec 13. When the nation woke up on Dec 14, Jupiter dasa had replaced Rahu dasa and the pessimistic and angry mood cleared up. The turmoil ended. Jupiter is the 9th lord in 10th with 10th lord Mars. The 10th house shows the ruler. So Jupiter dasa put the limelight on President elect Bush's preparations to govern. The next dasa of Saturn (from Jan 28, 2001) may bring some obstacles to the rulers, as 8th lord Saturn is debilitated in 10th. Though it wasn't clear how long this impasse would take to resolve, when I wrote it on Nov 9, I suspected the turmoil might last till Rahu dasas ended on Dec 13 and hence wrote what I wrote. It indeed took so long to resolve! May Jupiter's light shine on us, Narasimha
