Dear Kursijaji and Sreeram Srinivasji,

Astrology, whether Indian or western sometimes gives startling predictions based

on geographical location, which is what comes under the scope of Medini

jyotisha. Astrology seems to explain why USA had recession and is gradually

getting out it now and why Australia was not really affected by the global

recession. I know an astrologer who can even tell that a boy or girl will have

spouse born in a particular direction from his or her own place of birth. So

also he will tell in which direction one will go and earn his or her livelihood

and more often than not the prediction comes correct. I wish the Jyotish forum

also discusses such utilitarian aspects of Jyotish-vidya.

Astrology is knowledge and knowledge is power. One can learn astrology with

efforts and efforts are always rewarded, particularly when they are

constructive. Manu had said that the king must keep astrologers. According to

some the Jantar Mantar made by the Jaipur king was for prediction of Monsoon.

However Manu says that a Vanaprasthi should not give astrological predictions

(in order to get his meals). The latter is for two reasons. Firstly a sannyashi

is allowed to visit households for alms but the vanaprashthi is not allowed to

do so and secondly it may drag them towards the household again. This is

possible because  the Vanaprashthi does not give up the rituals, does not shave

head and only lives in seclusion for meditation and does spiritual studies

whereas the Sannyashi shaves head, wears ochre (or similar) robes, carries a

staff and kamandalu and/or begging bowl and  gives up the rituals, which make it

impossible for him to go back to the householder's life. There are some

non-Hindu critics of Hindu astrology and they do pretend to be Hindu by showing

that they are devoted to Lord SriRam. This type of deception is called Taquia.

These non-Hindus say that the Hindus learnt astrology from the Greeks and and

that Manu had barred the practice

of Nakshatrasoochi or  astrology. Though Manu had not really barred the

practice pf astrology he did prevent astrologers, physicaians and temple priests

among some others from being  invited to the Pitrikarya, where only poor

brahmins are required to be invited. These anti-Hindu idiots do not realise that

their very statement shows that Manu was aware of the practice of astrology in

the Hindu society in his times. Firstly these crooks had not quoted  the exact

verse of what Manu said as that itself will expose their lies. These crooks are

very curious to know where Manu said that the king should keep astrologers as

they have never read the complete work of Manu themselves. I am waiting to see

if they would put a bet on it (which of course they are bound to loose) and then

many among the  astrlogers may even  be motivated to find out where Manu said

like that.
