Their thoughts and minds were attuned to a much larger AWARENESS that aided in the clarity of the message they received. Their techniques might be easy to learn though difficult to find, but it is the rest of the " package " that would pose a greater difficulty to acquire, master and maintain by most of us worldly individuals. The only clue we have is that the Magi saw a star, followed it to where it stopped over Bethlehem and knew that was where the new King of the Jews was....the only facts we have. The Magi travelled from Persia where astrology was at a peak of professional performance. They also knew they musn't travel back to their homeland by passing Herod's palace knowing he was going to entrap them...............nothing changes today in terms of astrologers being hounded by politicians!! We do know that the Babylonians had the ability to use eclipses to foretell the future destinies of a nation and the successful outcomes of wars, a technique no one to my knowledge is currently using, or has used for centuries.....though William Lilley did use them succesfully to predict many outcomes for England and London. Certainly the Babylonians ( early Persians) were excellent at setting up charts to predict the future of Kings as many suriviving clay tablets have shown. While I think it possible they did use Nimitta.....most peoples do ......very clearly a primary omen was in the stars.
