This is a belated email, Gauranga clarified this for me and it seems Santhanam made a mistake, hence Rahu should be in Lagna or Kendra/trines from Paka Lagna.

 

Now the reason for this rule, must stem from the lack of Ketu in the Astottari Scheme. Hence People are more materialistic, or more towards creating more karma for themselves.

 

I believe the answer is somewhere in this, please clarify? Also the Paksha rule must confer with this somewhat.

In BPHS by Santhanam; The criteria for Astottari Dasa, is that Rahu isn't in Lagna, nor Kendra or trikona to Paka Lagna.

 

In the article given by Sanjay at; http://www.sjvc.org/Articles/vimsottari1.htm the opposite is stated.

 

The rest seems to apply, but what about this criteria.

And after knowing the correct criteria, it would be nice to understand why this happens.

 

I've had the impression that Rahu shouldn't be in Kendra nor Trikona to lagna, but please confirm.
