Functional v/s Natural Benefics

Hello all,

 

I have a very basic question about the planets. Sun, Waxing Moon,

Venus, Jupiter and well associated Mercury are considered natural

benefics, while waning Moon, Mars, badly associated Mercury, Saturn,

Rahu and Ketu are considered malefics.

 

However, for each lagna, some planets are functional benefics and

malefics.

 

The questions are

1. What are the effects of natural malefics who are functional

benefics in a chart? Do they destroy the house they occupy/aspect?

(assuming that they are not in their own house).

 

Similarly, how do natural benefics who are functional malefics in a

chart give their results?

 

2. Does exaltation remove the malefic effect of any planet?
