I would like to share my restlessness in reconciling two concurrent beliefs running side by side. This is all about the yugas as mentioned in our scriptures and the scientific basis of catagorisation of the time periods after the birth of earth and life on earth. In our scriptures, we have different yugas which cycle after thousands of years such as :Satya Yuga (1,728,000 years) Treta Yuga (1,296,000 years), Dvapara Yuga (864,000 years) and Kali Yuga (432,000 years) Whereas in evolutionary biology the geological periods are classifies according to different stages of evolution such as Cambrian Ordovician Silurian Devonian Mississippian Pennsylvanian Permian Triassic Jurassic Early Cretaceous Eocene Miocene Present The period of the dinosaurs, the period of man etc etc.... I find it difficult to reconcile between the two concurrent beliefs (I still don't know which is a fact), one from the scriptures and other from the scientific discoveries. If there is evolution pattern from the early living beings to the most advanced living being such as Man, where does, the classification of the time based on Yuga fits in? Is it only mythological or there is some truth in it.... Can any one please shed some light on it.
