Guest guest
Dear Sarajit, namaste! There are two excellent scientific and groundbreaking books which will probably answer your question. These books show that the Puranas are not mere mythology and that modern scientific theories are not as scientific as they claim to be. Reading these works will help you to develop even more respect for the depth and glory of the Vedas and Puranas: 1) "Forbidden Archeology" by Michael Cremo and Richard. L. Thompson. 2) "Mysteries of the Sacred Universe" by Richard L. Thompson. You can order and read more about these books on www.amazon.com Here are two sample Book Descriptions taken from the above website: "From the flat earth to the sun’s chariot, traditional spiritual texts often seem wedded to outmoded cosmologies that show, at best, the scientific limitations of their authors. The Bhagavata Purana, one of the classical scriptures of Hinduism, seems, at first glance, to be no exception. However, a closer examination of this text reveals unexpected depths of knowledge in ancient cosmology. Mysteries of the Sacred Universe shows that the cosmology of the Bhagavata Purana is a sophisicated system, with multiple levels of meaning that encode at least four different astronomical, geographical, and spiritual world models. By viewing the text in the light of modern astronomy, Richard Thompson shows how ancient scientists expressed exact knowledge in apparently mytho-logical terms. Comparison with the ancient traditions of Egypt and the Near East shows early cultural connections between India and these regions—-including a surprisingly advanced science. However, quantitative science is only part of the picture. Mysteries of the Sacred Universe also offers a clear understanding of how the spiritual dimension was integrated into ancient Indian cosmology." "Discover an alternate history to the human race as the authors of Forbidden Archeology challenge one of the most fundamental components of the modern scientific world view. Michael Cremo and Richard Thompson discuss the work of researchers who, over the past 2 centuries, have found bones and artifacts showing that people like ourselves existed on earth millions of years ago. They explain how the scientific establishment has ignored these remarkable facts because they contradict the dominant views of human origins and antiquity." This is all about the yugas as mentioned in our scriptures and the scientific basis of catagorisation of the time periods after the birth of earth and life on earth. In our scriptures, we have different yugas which cycle after thousands of years such as : Satya Yuga (1,728,000 years)Treta Yuga (1,296,000 years),Dvapara Yuga (864,000 years) andKali Yuga (432,000 years)Whereas in evolutionary biology the geological periods are classifies according to different stages of evolution such as Cambrian Ordovician Silurian Devonian Mississippian Pennsylvanian Permian Triassic Jurassic Early Cretaceous Eocene Miocene Present The period of the dinosaurs, the period of man etc etc.... I find it difficult to reconcile between the two concurrent beliefs (I still don't know which is a fact), one from the scriptures and other from the scientific discoveries. If there is evolution pattern from the early living beings to the most advanced living being such as Man, where does, the classification of the time based on Yuga fits in? Is it only mythological or there is some truth in it.... Can any one please shed some light on it. PranaamSarajitOM TAT SAT
