Guest guest
Dear Visti, When you say 'cannot afflict' do you mean the means or the end? Or is it possible that benefics give you what you think you want (pleasant means) but it damages you in the process? This is as a corollary to the functional benefic nature of a natural malefic. I do agree strongly about natural malefics owning a malefic house. That is an instance of confluence which I believe has a strong confirming effect. I am not sure that mercury is a natural benefic. It seems to be somewhat indecisive about its real nature and does tend to act with its associates. I think (being a mercury ruled person myself) that mercurial types take a long time to know who they are and tend to be influenced by associates a great deal. It is only in my 30s that I can claim true independence of values and ideas. However, I have noticed that this is not true of those ruled by mars for example, who seem to be their own people at a very young age. Any comments on this? Regards, Nimmi PS I cant find my original emal on the above topic, so am a bit lost really about what I wrote. But wouldn't the natural enmity between Jupiter and Mercury also come into play? I hadn't thought about the difference between rasi and graha drishtis as indicating what one is born with and what one acquires. In this case, would we say that the graha aspect would cause illnesses that develop over life and rasi aspect indicate congenital problems? I was born with a twisted foot (12th house) which created problems soon after birth (Vimshottri dasa of mars, AK placed in 12th). However, mars causes injury wheras rahu causes deformation (and also saturn I believe). Rahu in the 8th aspects the 12th by both rasi and graha drishti. The defect was however fixed by an operation (mars, sun and jupiter in 12?) within a year of birth. What I would have expected is also the aspect of saturn somewhere involving the 12th ruler. However the 12th ruler venus is in the 11th, unaspected, in exchange with mars 11th ruler (I believe the association with the 11th also shows the recovery). This is not much of a tie breaker due to the dual aspects by rahu on the 12th. The unafflicted nature of the 12th ruler must help. - Visti Larsen varahamihira Sunday, August 26, 2001 10:20 PM [Hare Rama Krishna] Functional vs Natural(Deafness Assesment.) Aum Gurave Namah! Dear Nimmi. <Would the 8th house rulership of mercury come into this since it aspects Jupiter?> This is a hard pressed subject and i'm very reluctant to use the term functional malefic.. heres what i've gathered. A benefic no matter its rulership cannot afflict. Benefics only incur damage on themselves. But the houses they are posited in shows the area where these ailments manifest. i.e. their fortune(paka). A malefic can however incur damage unto others and is even worse when it also lords a malefic house(double whammy). Similarly a malefic can give blessings but it may do so through diabolical means(terrorism, scandal, wars, death, etc). Ontop of that Graha Dristi shows desire stemming from other bodies, hence since this hearing problem stems from birth, the only way the Merc-Jup aspect could have relevance, was due to someones desire in a past life, or during pregnancy. I was going to say the same thing regarding Zorans comment, of Saturns dristi on the Moon. I hope this helps and that the gurus will correct any mistakes. Best wishes, Visti. p.s. Any reference on the Shastyamsa divisions available in standard works today? If not is someone willing to compile the meanings of the 60 deities, for sjvc use?OM TAT SATArchive: varahamihiraFiles: varahamihiravarahamihira/database
Guest guest
Dear Nimmi. <When you say 'cannot afflict' do you mean the means or the end?> The intent of a benefic is to bless others with prosperity. But the house its posited in will show where its gonna derive the fortune of its dusthana.. but it won't afflict the house. <I am not sure that mercury is a natural benefic. Yes the point about mars is quite right.. i should know. Best wishes, Visti.
