Guest guest
Respected Sanjay guruji, Namaste, I am submitting my third and final response to this assignment, pertaining to SARPA YOGA. I will be greatly obliged to have my submission critically examined by the learned Gurus and seniors on this list to guide me to identify my errors and ommissions. With sincere regards, Shailesh Chandra Chadhascchadha, shail_c 2. Define and explain Sarpa Yoga and recommend remedies for alleviation of suffering associated with it with a few examples DEFINITION: SARPA YOGA is a kind of yoga which represents curse of a serpent. It is indicative of a very afflicted Rasi chart and is caused by occupation of Kendras by malefic, to the exclusion of benefics. BHPS describes occupation of 3 kendra but Horasara and Saravali mention that all kendras should be so occupied. The relevant extracts of the three books are reproduced below. BHPS: If 3 Kendras are occupied by benefics, Maal Yog is produced, while malefics so placed will cause Bhujang, or Sarpa Yog. These Yogas, respectively, produce benefic and malefic results. [One born in Sarpa Yog will be crooked, cruel, poor, miserable and will depend on others for food and drinks.] HORASARA: If all the benefics be in Kendr Bhavas, Mala Yog is formed. In a like position malefics cause Sarpa Yog. [One born in Sarpa Yog will talk too much and will leave his paternal place. He will be a source of trouble to others and derive pleasure thereby. He will be short lived.] SARAVALI: Malefics in all Angles produce Sarpa Yoga. These two are Dala Yogas. Dr BV Raman has described another similar sounding yoga, Sarpa-pasa yoga, which is caused by affliction to the fifth house – significator of progeny – by two or extreme malefics, RA, SA, MA, etc and leads to loss/ denial of children. I shall confine my submission to the first type of yoga. Kendras are the support and sustainers of a chart and, therefore have been aptly called ‘Vishnu Sthan’. Serious affliction to most of the kendras, 3 or more, would seriously impair the beneficience of the chart. 1H is significator of, interalia, one self, 4H of mother, wealth, education, etc., 7H for spouse, partner, married life etc., and 10H of Karma, growth, etc. If three of these kendras are seriously afflicted, they are bound to destroy the fourth angle through direct aspect- therfore, affliction to even 3 kendras is sufficient to cause this yoga. Presence of benefics in kendras breaks/ destroys this yoga. Presence of benefics in other houses, in strength, may weaken the rigours imposed by the sarpa yoga. As in case of KSY and KAY, MO breaking the Sarpa Yoga generates Mahashankha Yoga and JU in similar circumstances generates Mahapadma Yoga. REMEDIES: Remedy lies in strengthening the benefics and appeasing the Naga Devata. The latter is achieved by worshipping a golden idol of Nagaraja, donating cow, some land, seasame seeds and a little gold. The benefics can be strengthened by fasting on the weekday representing them and by praying to the diety indicated by that particular planet. Praying to Ishta Devata also helps in overcoming the problems. EXAMPLES: SCC-S Y 1 Male- January 28, 1948; 6:37(5:30 East of GMT); 80 E 36', 15 N 56' +--------------+ +--------------+| |Rah | | | |Jup Ven |Asc HL |Sun Ket |Moo || | | | | |SatR GL | | | || | | | | | | | | || | | | | | | | | || | | | | | | | | ||-----------+-----------------------+-----------| |-----------+-----------------------+-----------||Ven | |SatR Mnd | |Mnd | |MarR AL || | |Glk | | | | || | | | | | | || | | | | | | || | | | | | | ||-----------| Rasi |-----------| |-----------| Navamsa |-----------||Asc Sun | |Moo MarR | | | | ||Mer HL | | | | | | ||GL | | | | | | || | | | | | | || | | | | | | ||-----------+-----------------------+-----------| |-----------+-----------------------+-----------|| |Jup |Ket AL | | | |Rah Glk | |Mer || | | | | | | | | || | | | | | | | | || | | | | | | | | || | | | | | | | | |+--------------+ +--------------+ In the above chart, but for the presence of ME in lagna, all the 4 kendras are exclusively occupied by natural malefics. ME is, however, also malefic by association with SU. Tithi being krishna tritiya, MO also in a malefic. On the other hand, the other two benefics, MK VE and AmK JU are well placed in 2H and 11H respectively, indicating wealth and protection from miseries. Of the two, JU with 7 SAV points is better placed in the 11H which itself has 37 SAV points. Therefore, the native could be advised to fast on Thursdays and worship Shri Vishnu and Shri Balaram, The chart has other other indicators of wealth as well, in the form of conjunction of HL and GL in the lagna itself, in the presence of two strong RY, caused by conj of AK-ME with PiK SU and the other between AK-ME asp by PK –MA. 9L ME in lagna creates another RY; so does the LL SA in 7H SCC-S Y 2 MALE: August 13, 1965; 19:30; 78 E 33'; 17 N 27' +--------------+ +--------------+| | |Rah GL |Jup | |Sun Glk |MerR SatR | |Rah Mnd || | |Mnd Glk | | | |HL AL | | || | |AL | | | | | | || | | | | | | | | || | | | | | | | | ||-----------+-----------------------+-----------| |-----------+-----------------------+-----------||Asc Moo | |Sun | | | |GL ||SatR | | | | | | || | | | | | | || | | | | | | || | | | | | | ||-----------| Rasi |-----------| |-----------| Navamsa |-----------|| | |MerR Ven | |Asc Moo | | || | | | | | | || | | | | | | || | | | | | | || | | | | | | ||-----------+-----------------------+-----------| |-----------+-----------------------+-----------|| |Ket |Mar |HL | |Ven Ket | |Mar Jup | || | | | | | | | | || | | | | | | | | || | | | | | | | | || | | | | | | | | |+--------------+ +--------------+ In this chart, 3 kendras are occupied by malefics, 1H by SA and malefic MO, 4H by RA and 10H by KE. On the other hand, 7H is occupied by two benefics, ME and VE, thus providing an escape from the grip of the Sarpa Yoga for the native. Both these planets are weak – of the two ME with 4 SAV points is stronger than VE with 2 SAV points. Hence, the native may be adviced to pray to Shri Vishnu, recite Srhi Vishnu Sahasra Namam and donate grains.
Guest guest
***Jaya Jagannath***Dear Sailesh, This is a very good attempt. The remedy about worshipping Nagaraj is fasninating. Add Naga Panchami and Seetala Shasti as the days best suited for this. But if the Sarpa Yoga is broken by a benefic then the worship should be directed not to the sarpa but to the planetary deity who has broken the sarpa yoga. This point should be more clear.
