Pooja should be done during the time of eclipse. How about 'Aditya Hridayam'? It is for sun. That time is like night and I think aaditya hridayam should be chanted when Light is strong (sunrise). Any mantra or prayer that is read during the time of the eclipse is equal to reading it a hundred thousand times. In my home state(Andhra Pradesh) reading anything at this time, even text books for that matter(not magazines and stuff like that) is considered good. Many people perform homas at this time especially Ganesh homam. I do not know the reason for this though. I even read somewhere that a few take a dip in the ocean near Puri!
