Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha Dear Sandy, Latha means backward kick (as far as I know). Best wishes, Swee swee http://www.brihaspati.net/ -----Original Message----- Sandy Crowther [sandy] Tuesday, January 21, 2003 5:51 PM Varahamihira (AT) (DOT) Com [sJC: Varahamihira] Sarvatobhadra Chakra Hare Rama Krishna Dear Sanjay, Guru’s, and learned members, My understanding is that latha is reckoned from the star occupied by the respective planets, and if the natal Lagna star or Moon star is in the latha of a transiting planet, the significations of the transiting planet will suffer. So in determining latha in Sarvatobhadra Chakra, are ALL star placements counted in reverse, or are some positions calculated from a forward movement? I’m unclear on this… For example: I understand that the 12th star from the Sun’s placement is counted in reverse, as is the 3rd star from Mars, and 8th star from Saturn, in order to find their respective lathas. What about the 22nd star from the Moon, 6th star from Jupiter, 7th star from Mercury, 9th star from Rahu, and 5th star from Venus? Are these positions also configured by counting in reverse, or are any of these lathas reckoned by a count in forward motion? Thanks for any clarification on this. (P.S. Phyllis – I’m still waiting for your delineation format…J) ~ Sincerely ~ Sandy Crowther http://www.jupitersweb.com/ Hare Rama Krishna Archive:varahamihira Files:varahamihira varahamihira/database
Guest guest
Dear Swee, Sanjay, and Group, Thanks Swee…But are you positive that latha means backward kick? (I couldn’t find an English translation anywhere, and I’ve accumulated a few references to search through L.) I question this because on page 12 of COVA, line 4, with reference to latha, Sanjay states “the 22nd star from the Moon contend zodiacally”…and then he proceeds to state the rest of the planets (with the exception of Sun, Mars, and Saturn) with no reference to directional count. Would this perhaps imply that all planets except the Moon are configured by reverse count? Am I missing something obvious here? It is very unclear to me…If latha means backward kick, what does the reference (above) to the Moon mean? I am going through COVA with the understanding of a westerner – which is often times disadvantageous by virtue of my lack of versatility in the language terminology, coupled with a lack of understanding of various terminology that is not so readily reference available anywhere… So I am citing examples that I think may need more clarification for western readers…At least I HOPE that it what I am doing…and not just having another one of those “Senior Moments”…J ~Namaste~ Sandy Crowther http://www.jupitersweb.com/ Jaya Jagannatha Dear Sandy, Latha means backward kick (as far as I know). Guest guest
Om Gurave Namah Dear Sandy There are TWO nakshatra mandala, one is the physical level of 27 stars and the other is the spiritual level of 28 stars. Latta is used in the sarva-bhadra chakra where the 28 stars are used with the tithi etc. Secondly, the latta is in reference to transits in the SBC. At the feet of Guru Pandita Kasinatha, I remain, Sanjay Rath Mail: 71 Vasant Apartments, Mayur Vihar Phase-1, New Delhi 110091, India Tel: +91-11-2713201; SJC Web pages: http://.org; Personal Web: http://srath.com - " Sandy Crowther " <sandy <varahamihira > Wednesday, January 22, 2003 3:58 AM RE: [sJC: Varahamihira] Sarvatobhadra Chakra > Dear Swee, Sanjay, and Group, > Thanks Swee…But are you positive that latha means backward kick? Guest guest
The concepts related to S. Chakra such as vedha, and pida appear in the great epic MahaBharat. This means that jyotisha is as old as MBh (3067 BCE). For more details, pls refer p. 17 of http://www.hindunet.org/saraswati/colloquium/narahari01.pdf Rgds, VR
