Guest guest
Pranam Gurudev Sanjay and Narasimha, This is a request for your guidance in what is a life and death decision for us. However inactive shishya I have been of yours, I am requesting both of you to take some time from your lives and give us some advice. Here is the long and short of it: We are presently in the Washington DC metro area. My wife Himali conceived in November 2002. On 12th Feb, the doctor could not see the foetus in the sonogram and diagnosed that the foetus had disintegrated around 5th week or so. She advised an immediate D & C procedure and carried it out the same day. When my wife went for a follow-up on 28th Feb, the doctor (grossly negligent by not reading the report for so long) was alarmed to see a 'No Pregnancy Tissue Found' in the D & C report. After a quick blood-test, they found that pregnancy hormone 'SCG' levels had shot up from 46,000 before the D & C to 119,000 2 weeks following 'D & C'. The doc panicked and gave us some more misleading advice as conducting Laparascopy if the pregnancy was in the Fallopian Tubes...(sic) Meanwhile, with the doctor's permission, I had asked my wife to proceed to India to recuperate from the D & C. On consulting with 3 OB-GYN and Pre-Natal/Neo-Natal specialists in India, we find that my wife is STILL pregnant. She is carrying an appropriately developed 16 week old baby with a heart beat of 159 beats/minute. However, the biggest question in front of us is that after the D & C procedure, my wife was administered Methagine and Doxycycline, both anti-Pregnancy drugs for a week, along with a host of 800 mg pain killers (and general anasthesia during procedure). These drugs threaten our otherwise healthily developing child from a huge risk of birth defects! They are equivalent to choking a person (here cutting the blood supply to the uterus) and then giving a fresh lease of life! Our question to you is that we have to decide within one week whether we should keep the pregnancy or terminate it by induced labor. FYI, my wife had to undergo a D & C in Feb 1998 as well. We are not looking for answers, but for advice that can help us make the decision. Your advice will help us and we would forever appreciate it. If you think we need to approach you in a different manner, please advise as well.
