Namaste all,

If you downloaded JHoraLite 5.0 and have any bugs or misbehavior to report, please send a personal email to pvr by private email. I will fix them in a couple of weeks and release a more stable version.

So far two bugs have been pointed out (thank you Ramdas Rao ji and KPK ji).

Bug 1: Setting the Default Location

Behavior: If you enter a city name, timezone, longitude and latitude in the birthdata and "set the current location as the default", only the timezone, longitude and latitude are saved. The city name is not saved and "South Grafton, Massachusetts, USA" is displayed instead, even though the timezone, longitude and latitude of your place are correctly used.

More details: If you select a city from the atlas (which is big - 2.5 million cities - in the commercial version but small - only 1,000+ cities - in the lite version) and set it as the default location, everything is fine. But if you enter your own co-ordinates and name, then name is ignored.

Temporary work-around: First close the JHoraLite software. Go to C:\ drive in your hard disk (use explorer or file manager to do it). Look for a file called jhl.ini in it. It is a text file. Open it with notepad. Look for South^Grafton and Massachusetts,^USA. Change them to the city name and the country name you want. Just make sure that the names contain no spaces. If there are spaces, replace spaces by caret (^). For example, replace "South^Grafton" by "New^Orleans" if you want "New Orleans". Then save jhl.ini, close notepad and re-open JHoraLite software. Now all the new charts created will mention this city and country.

Just make sure that you don't mess around with anything else in jhl.ini, which can have disastrous consequences. In the worst case, just delete the file and open the software to create a new jhl.ini file with the default preference settings.

Bug 2: Ashtakavarga in 800x600 display settings

Behavior: If you have a small monitor and use 800x600 display, then clicking "Show ashtakavarga of this chart" pop-up menu item on a chart makes JHoraLite crash.

More details: If you use 800x600 display, you will see that your display looks totally different from the screenshot provided on the download website. In the case of 800x600 displays, JHoraLite uses a simplified display. There is no ashtakavarga display in the key info view. Trying to go to a view pointed to by an uninitialized variable is making the program crash. This problem is not present if you use 1024x768 or 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 display. It occurs only with 800x600 and 640x480 displays.

Temporary work-around: Do not click "Show ashtakavarga of this chart" on a chart. Instead, go to the "Strengths" upper tab and "Ashtakavarga" lower tab within the strengths tab. Then ashtakavarga is displayed. By clicking on "Show ashtakavarga of this chart", you can select, rasi, dasamsa etc. By clicking "Natal chart or derived chart (Tajaka/TP)" you can choose to view the AV of the Tajaka chart (provided you are viewing the Tajaka annual chart) or that of the natal chart.

May Jupiter's light shine on us,

Narasimha
