Guest guest
Could I send in a single cheque for $40 for both membership and annual subscription of digest instead of writing two seperate ones? Thanks RamakrishnanSarabani Sarkar <sarbani wrote: om suragurubrihaspataye namah Dear Jyotishis, Please read through the following post carefully including details of payment procedure for membership fees and Jyotish Digest subscriptions. We had posted a message to SJC, Varahamihira and Vyasa Lists in late December 2002/early January 2003 announcing membership fees for both students and gurus. It is something, which we decided way back in October, and when some SJC members also strongly advocated the idea during the Hyderabad Conference, we went ahead and implemented it. So it is a very newly introduced concept, and an administrative necessity in order to systematize and consolidate the growth of the organization, as SJC grew over the years by the grace of Jagannath Mahaprabhu. So please bear with us through this process. We were planning to make a repeat announcement about the membership fees in a month’s time and have thought of making such an announcement periodically on the lists. Shortly, the details below will be put up on the web. We will soon post a detailed account as to why we feel membership fees are now necessary. I am sure it is apparent to the gurus, administrative members and those who are closely associated with us at a day-to-day level , of the numerous hidden and administrative costs of running SJC. During the Hyderabad conference, for example, Sanjayji has borne the costs of return plane and train tickets of a guru and a guest . Gurus in transit have to be provided accomodation and this too is borne by SJC. At other times we have accommodated gurus and members as houseguests so that costs are entirely saved and are borne by the individual hosts. This is a mode followed by most SJC gurus and members all over the world, especially in the US during conferences . The SJC web site has been registered and is maintained by a guru despite the fact that he is between jobs at the moment. There are many such instances, where SJC members have quietly paid from their pockets despite personal hardships. We want to alleviate their difficulties by taking a contribution from all the members so that many of these costs can be covered, as well as to generate funds for sustaining the organization. The administrative costs of running an organization are plenty, ranging from photocopies, transparencies, printing, postage, courier, bank work, Jyotish Digest, administrative expenses, secretarial help, local travel, free resources on the web, web site designing, web site maintenance, lawyers fees, (and soon auditors fees)...its an unending list. Please note we have not included guru dakshina or time devoted by members for administration work in lieu of their other professional commitment. Also note, we are contemplating moving to an independent office space for SJC , planning research and translation work in a big way and would like to venture into publishing; including brochures and flyers for conferences and sponsorship purposes. All this would require money. To start with, members would get benefits in the form of special prices on CDs and audio tapes, special concessions during conference registrations, free access to web resources etc. We will post a detailed mail on this soon. The annual SJC membership fees are as follows: India/ Indian Subcontinent (Indian rupees) Rest of the World (US dollars) Students Rs. 500 $ 30 Gurus Rs. 1000 $ 50 Both Indian and International members may submit checks directly to SJC's account. Details are as follows: Account name Sri Jagannath Centre Account number 0262000022052 Bank name HDFC Bank Address Old Rajinder Nagar Market, New Delhi, India .. Jyotish Digest: Jyotish Digest has now turned quarterly. A new look journal will be out by the end of this month. We have introduced new subscription rates, which will include postage costs. There have been complaints in the past that the magazine never reached the rs. The last issue was mailed by registered post and by courier service. This proved to be more satisfactory. The new subscription rates therefore include the heavy postage costs apart from covering the expenditure of producing the magazine. Our aim is to produce a quality journal which will publish papers of excellence according to the lines of research pursued and advocated by SJC and which will be different from other astrological journals in the market. So please bear with us while this transition takes place. The new annual subscription fees are as follows, including postage: Annual India/Indian Subcontinent (Indian rupees) Rs. 200 Rest of the World (US Dollars) $ 10 Subscriptions are to be paid to Sri Jagannath Centre in the abovementioned account name and number. Please note: International rs will not be able to pay the subscription directly into the account as the sum is below the minimum amount accepted by the Bank for foreign currency. We hope this answers some of the queries raised recently. As we formalize the structure we will be making more announcements Thank you for bearing with us, Best regards, Sarbani Sarkar President SJC - AsiaHare Rama KrishnaArchive:varahamihiraFiles:varahamihiravarahamihira/database
