Unless you are giving a prasiddha mantra, ideally, the name to address the deity should be with the same akshara as that of the person so that there is a very rare chance of making a mistake in the mantra. Various mantra were assigned for him. 1. I have seen Visti and Sarajit give the 12 akshara mantra for Sri Rama based on the position of the Sun in the 12th house. I normally give the avatar mantra for the Ista devata as the intelligent man asks Vishnu for paramam padam (the ultimate destination). So the dvadasakshari mantra for the Vishnu avatar should be reserved for this purpose. You can also use the astakshari mantra for this purpose. The difference being the outer and inner heart lotus respectively.2. Sarbani has been very intelligent in giving the mantra from the Purana, ideally the Bhavishya Purana which is a great source of learning as the teacher here is Krishna. She has played it very safe. My views are different. You must first check whether the mantra is to be addressed to the devata or the pitris in the case of Surya. If devata, then the address should end with 'Svaha' if to the Pitris, then the address should end with 'Svadha'. Another way is Uttara Ayana is Deva paksha and Dakshina Ayana is Pitris Paksha for the solar movement. Either prasna or natal sun can be used. There is also the need to check what the Lagna lord is since he asking for a mantra for the Sun God. Visit http://srath.com/hindu/surya.htm for more details on this aspect. Since his lagna is Leo and the Lagna lord is the sun, the primary name for worshipping is 'Surya'. Fortunately, his name is also with 'S' as Sanjay. So this name is chosen for addressing the Sun God. The Sun is in the 12th house in marana karaka sthana and needs some strength. Is it linked with the AK? A graha mantra can be chosen and in addition, the adhi devata Agni & Pratyadhi devata Shiva will also have to be worshipped. Since Surya is in Marana Karaka sthana, worship of the pratyadhi devata Shiva is necessary to give life to it.Keeping this in view, it is evident that the mantras given by Sarbani are better. Bear in mind that these mantra have five words.
