Guest guest
Dear Brendan, I understand your reluctance to discuss health issue without having information, let alone prescribing herbs, and justified legal prohibition for doing the same. I read this post, and wrightly or wrongly, I've been fasting every Friday, since I've become a mother. It runs in my family /related to our beloved family diety/, I've never questioned that. My PItta-Vata-Kafa constitution 'hasn't complained' so far. My mother, Pitta-Kafa, fasts all her life /Fridays, and long 40 day fasts ocassionally/. Since my mother, myself, my grand mother...although totally different, fast the same way, and that kind of make us all feel good, the only explanation that comes to my mind is 'faith'.. I cannot prove that it's good for me, but I am sure it is, lol! Any other reason, other than my loving 'gardian angel', couldn't make me this persistant and joyous about 'giving'-abstaining in fast To such an extent that I even don't feel the need to check out with you if my fasting is in accordance with my constutution./my normal, 'automatic' reaction'/ Ah, I also wish to know more about that strange amazing, human brain.Like to think about 'renounciation' as BRAIN-OZ wonderland! This is unfortunate and I like my personal freedom too much to ignore the laws of the land.In addition, a proper diagnosis is very important. Let me give you an example. This afternoon, I brought my children to a party... a school event. One of the parents was telling me how much she loved Ayurveda and that she just carried out a 3 day fast and drank lots of water with lemon juice and also took capsules of cayenne to detox her system. She was not sure of her constitution and could not discern this from reading the books. Her pulse was a raging out of balance Pitta and her conversation was all about her accomplishments in business (Pitta). They are very driven people. This is a completely wrong fast for a Pitta person. These substances would only drive Pitta higher and indeed she became ravenous and had to stop the fast and eat food. Her Agni bacame very high and wanted to consume and consume and consume.I like to think of Ayurvedic herbalism as my specialty and we have wonderful combinations for the mind as well as the individual in general, the doshic constitution, the Vikruti and for the organs and dhatus. When Vikruti and Prakruti are identical, we become knowers of Purusha and becoming one with Godhead, the transcendental bliss of union with one's Divine Beloved, the Divine Personality, is a lot easier. We have herbs in Ayurveda to promote and cultivate such a sattvic state of the mind. The nature of the mind is sattva and trancendence is very difficult when the mind is full of rajas and tamas. When Vikruti and Prakruti are a total mismatch, then we are at war with ourselves. We sit in meditation and struggle with our thoughts and feelings according to the offending dosha and our imagination is full of offending enemies. This is an extreme example of course. We argue with our spouse and perceive enemies where they do not exist. We blame the world and other people. We begin to feel isolated and forsaken in the world and so on.The misalignment can be so tamasic, so strong that the individual may feel that there is no purpose to life, life is meaningless, there is no God, no love, no faith and only hopelessness and spiritual despair and no afterlife. Even faith in humanity can become absent. Such souls then decide that I am going to get whatever material benefits I can out of this life regardless of its impact on others. Such is much of our world today. This is the Kaliyug and it has just begun. Imagine! In such an age it is illegal to practice sattvic healing methods because according to the authorities it might cause harm.Regards,Brendan Om Rameshvara Namaha,Hello Brendanthx for the note.I was taking Mahasudarshan for Pitta balancing...Being Pitta-Vata - thought that would be correct.that said, let me try only Tripahala for some timeto see if Vata balance retuns... key indicatormust be mental balance and elimination ofangst/nervious mind.Your thoughts on this are welcomed.|Om Tat Sat|http://www.varahamihira
