Guest guest
Monday, 17 July 2006, 12:41 GMT 13:41 UK Discovery starts return to Earth A heat shield scan has shown there is no damage to the space shuttle Astronauts on board the Discovery space shuttle have begun their journey back to Earth at the end of a 13-day mission to the International Space Station. The orbiter and its six-strong crew started its hour-long descent after firing up the braking rockets. Discovery was cleared for re-entry over the weekend when inspections revealed no signs of damage to the craft. The shuttle is scheduled to touch down at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 1314 GMT. Crew members were woken early on Monday to begin preparations for re-entry, often judged the most risky phase of a shuttle mission Nasa officials have suggested that the apparent success of Discovery's mission has drawn a line under continued doubts over the safety of the shuttle programme. Discovery's flight is only the second shuttle mission since the Columbia broke up on re-entry in 2003 killing everyone on board and grounding the rest of the shuttle fleet. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/5186964.stm US dasha: Ve/Sa/Mo/Ve/Ve  NASA dasha: Ju/Ve/Su/Ve/Me  All operational planets are afflicted at 13:14 GMT in both charts, which may indicate some problems on coming back at the scheduled time. Let us hope everything will be OK.  satva Jorge Angelino Rua da Sociedade Filarmónica Perpétua Azeitonense, 29 2925-598 Azeitão Portugal jorge.angelino tel: mobile: 210813674 963916784 Add me to your address book...
