Increase In Bedbug Infestation

HONOLULU

-- Bedbug

infestations are jumping in the U.S. and Hawaii. The National Pest Management Association

said reports of bedbug infestations have climbed by more than 60 percent over

the past four years.

Bedbugs were

nearly eradicated in the 40s and 50s, but now insect experts say they're back.

Bill Kanour is

the chief entomologist with the Health

Department's Vector Control. He said that

over the past five years, bedbugs in Hawaii have taken a bite on residents. In

this past fiscal year, the state registered 29 complaints from itchy residents
