Guest guest
Monday, 21 August 2006, 07:25 GMT 08:25 UK Dozens die in Egypt train crash Two passenger trains have collided in northern Egypt killing at least 40 people, although security sources say there may be as many as 80 dead. The collision happened on Monday morning near the town of Qalyoub, 20 km (12 miles) north of the capital, Cairo. Egyptian television reports that more than 100 people were also injured as four carriages derailed and overturned. Egypt has a history of serious rail accidents, which are usually blamed on poorly maintained equipment. Details are still sketchy but reports suggest the trains were on the same track. The provincial governor, Adly Hussein, told Egypt television that two southbound trains headed for Cairo collided at about 0745 (0445 GMT). It is the third serious train accident this year in Egypt, the French news agency, AFP, reports. In May, 45 people were injured when a passenger train hit a stationary cargo train, and in February 20 people were hurt when two trains collided. Egypt's worst train accident by far happened in 2002 when a fire on a train travelling south from Cairo left at least 300 people dead. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/5269946.stm Dasha: Ra/Ra/Su/Me/Ve  satva Jorge Angelino Rua da Sociedade Filarmónica Perpétua Azeitonense, 29 2925-598 Azeitão Portugal jorge.angelino tel: mobile: 210813674 963916784 Add me to your address book...
