A building damaged in last year's earthquake in Pakistan has collapsed,

trapping an unknown number of people in its rubble.

The building in the mountain resort of Murree, an hour's drive from Islamabad, was under a

demolition order.

The building's owner was among

those trapped, along with his wife, son and daughter, a relative said.

Some of those trapped were using mobile phones to talk to

police, local officials said.

The building was described as between seven and nine stories

high.

It collapsed at about 0300 (2200

GMT), but officials said they did not know

what had brought it down.

Police and soldiers were searching through the rubble at the

site trying to find survivors.

" After the earthquake the building was declared dangerous

because it had cracks running through it and the town's administrator

issued three notices to the owner to demolish it but he did nothing about it, "

said local government official Javed Ikhlas.

The huge earthquake of 8 October last year shook the Kashmiri

region, killing more than 75,000 people and making three million homeless.
