Mr Kaczynski

hinted at the prospect of early elections

 

 

 

Poland's Prime Minister Jaroslaw

Kaczynski has sacked his left-wing deputy, bringing an end to the

four-month-old governing coalition.

The move - which could lead to early elections - comes in the

middle of a row over next year's budget.

Andrzej Lepper had repeatedly criticised Mr Kaczynski's Law and

Justice party over the budget.

He also criticised the Polish decision to send an additional

1,000 troops to the Nato mission in Afghanistan.

Mr Kaczynski said he would try to assemble a new parliamentary

majority with breakaway members of Mr Lepper's party and

another small rural based group within the next few days.

If that fails, he said, early elections, probably to be held in

November, would be the only solution.
