Guest guest
Dear Thor, (Sending on-list in case you are able to access Samva before my off-list mails get to your inbox). Re. the Samva USA chart degree - I only get the given Lagna of 20*59 Cancer if I use a time of 17:11 EST. However, if I use the suggested 17:05 EST time - the Lagna comes to only 19:48 Cancer. I have triple-checked this using - Jyotish Tools and JHL software and Goravani software. Annapolis, MD:USA Longitude: 76W30 Latitude: 38N59 EST of 5:00, and no Daylight time - correct? p.s. - www.astro.com shows "LMT" as the timezone rather than "EST" - I wonder if this is where I am finding the difference? Cheers - Sateesh.
Guest guest
p.s. I tried casting the chart just now in www.astro.com using Lahiri ayanamsa - the site gives a timezone for that date and place in history of "LMT" Now - using 17:05 LMT as the time - the chart comes to 21* Cancer - which is close enough to 20*59 Cancer. So I guess LMT is at slight variance to EST - although not sure of the mechanics of the difference. Cheers - Sateesh. ======== - Sateesh Batas SAMVA Tuesday, March 27, 2007 7:07 PM Thor - Samva USA chart - rising degree versus time? Guest guest
Dear Sateesh, The Local Mean Time is used for times in 1781. Standard Time Zones in the USA were not adopted until the 19th century (see below). In Jyotish Tools, go to Chart Data menu. Select Zone - scroll down to LMT and then the field next to it becomes active. Enter there the appropriate LMT value. In the SAMVA USA chart the LMT value is +5:06. This should not be confused with a) the time of the event, which is 17:05 (or 5:05 PM), or b) the standard time for the East Coast which is +5:00 (EST) or the daylight saving time +4:00 (EDT), whichever the case may be. Best wishes, Thor More on Standard Time Zones: Standard time in time zones was instituted in the U.S. and Canada by the railroads on November 18, 1883. Prior to that, time of day was a local matter, and most cities and towns used some form of local solar time, maintained by a well-known clock (on a church steeple, for example, or in a jeweler's window). http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/d.html SAMVA , " Sateesh Batas " <makaras wrote: > > > p.s. Guest guest
Dear Thor, Many thanks - you have assumed it correctly - the reason I was confused was in your original chart the birth-time was 5:05 - and the LMT was 5:06. As these seemed very similar, hence my confusion over why 5:05 birth and 5:06 zone was being used! It now works fine as per your below instructions for Jyotish Tools - and I get the required 20*59 Cancer lagna. Thanks also for the paste and link - interesting info indeed. Cheers a ton - Sateesh. ======== - cosmologer SAMVA Tuesday, March 27, 2007 7:55 PM Re: Thor - Samva USA chart - rising degree versus time?Dear Sateesh,The Local Mean Time is used for times in 1781. Guest guest
Systems Approach always uses Equal House system, rather than unequal types like Placidus.
