Best wishes, Thor Iraq Attacks Kill 5 U.S. Forces; 104 Killed in April (Update1) By Robin Stringer April 30 (Bloomberg) -- Five U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq, taking the number of American service personnel killed in Iraq this month to more than 100. Three Multi-National Division - Baghdad soldiers and an Iraqi interpreter were killed and one soldier was wounded by a roadside bomb that struck their vehicle while on patrol in eastern Baghdad yesterday. A U.S. Marine was killed during combat operations in the western province of al-Anbar yesterday. Another Baghdad-based soldier was killed by small arms fire in eastern Baghdad a day earlier on April 28, the military said today in separate e-mailed statements. A total of 104 U.S. personnel have been killed this month, according to Department of Defense statistics and military statements, making April the deadliest month for U.S. forces since October last year. U.S. military deaths have risen each month since a security crackdown in Baghdad and the al-Anbar province began in February. Up to 30,000 extra U.S. forces will be in theater for the operation by June, military commanders have said. A total of 2,720 U.S. service members have been killed in action in Iraq as of April 27, according to the Department of Defense Web site. The number of deaths including those from other causes was 3,339. More than 24,000 have been wounded, 11,090 of them so seriously they couldn't return to duty.
