Guest guest
Dear Thor & list members, I can certainly confirm that the opening times of individual stocks listed on both the NASDAQ & NYSE, on their first day of trading, is not uniform. As has been noted many stocks open much latter in the day on their 1st day of trading and therefore the exact timing of the 1st trade is of importance. Whlist I can't confirm the exact time of the 1st trade on Google I do recall that it was in fact around midday as previously stated. Clearly the importance or otherwise of using the exact time of the 1st traded price is something we need to actively research. It was this motivation that lead me to note and record the exact opening "times" of Blackstone. Perhaps we can use the performance of Blackstone as a guide to answering this question? To my mind just using the set NYSE/NASDAQ opening time of 9:30am for stocks that open some time later (on their 1st day of trading) than this time is probably not correct. Best wishes, Peter 24 FIFA World Cup tickets to be won with Mail. Learn more
Guest guest
Dear Peter, Thank you for the information. I agree, it is now abundantly clear that the first trade may take place later in the day. This effectively scuttles much of the earlier work in this area based on the 9:30 am method. Again, this method was based on the assumption that the first trade took place close to the open. I was wondering if you or other list members could find the time of first trade in the following two stocks for the same purpose as you propose: AAPL - Apple Computer Company -12 December 1980 (Nasdaq) DCGN - DeCODE genetics - 18 July 2000 (Nasdaq) I have earlier followed the stock price performance of these companies. We also can now examine the charts for GOOG and EBAY, for which the times have been given by Raj and Tom. Guest guest
Dear Thor & List Members, Thanks for your mail. I will certainly try to get the "time & sales" data for the two stocks you have indicated. I agree it would certainly be interesting to see how much clarity or otherwise the exact time of the 1st trade provides. Best wishes, Peter Mail is the world's favourite email.
