Guest guest
Dear Thor, What happens after 1931? Does it stay @ 100 % or go beyond so in 1981 it 80 % etc. ? Thanks, John P. Guest guest
Dear friends, A list member has asked a question off-list which I reply to on list, in case others find it useful. The customary orb for planetary aspects in SA is 5°. The orb begins at 5° and goes to 0°% where the aspect becomes exact. The 5° orb translates to 300' (5x60) minutes of a degree. E.g. the influence goes from 0% at 5° (300') orb to 50% at 2° 30' (150') orb, to 100% at 0° 00' (0') orb. The influence is typically stated as follows: Orb - influence (in percent of impact) 5° - 0% 4° - 20% 3°¨- 40% 2° - 60% 1° - 80% 0° - 100% In the SAMVA USA chart there are a number of aspects. We measure the orb involved. For instance, the aspect of L8 Saturn at 26° 46' Scorpio H5 to L2 Sun at 23° 45' is converted to decimals. We then get Sun 23,75 (293,75 out of 360,0 degrees) Saturn 26,76667 (236,6667 out of 360,9 degrees) Difference: 63,016667 Remove 60 degrees (two signs): 3,016667 The effective orb of this two sign aspect (sextile) was thus 3,02 in the SAMVA USA chart at the time the Union of American States was formed in 1781. This means that the influence was about 40% at the beginning. Theoretically. according to the "50 year rule" we need to go back to the year 1682 for this aspect to have been 5°. We can also calculate the growing influence of the aspect forward in time (50 years for each degree ) as follows: Year: Orb - influence 1781: 3° - 40% 1831: 2°' - 60% 1881: 1° - 80% 1931: 0° - 100% This means the Saturn (functional lord of death) aspect to the Sun (general indicator of the leader of a country) in the SAMVA USA chart became quite influential, with 60% of influence in 1831. The first assassination attempt on a sitting US President took place in 1834. Best wishes, Thor . . <>Cosmologer <cosmologerSaturday, December 1, 2007 5:12:15 AMAn Example of Calculation Hello Thor I am still trying to under the 50 year rule. In your USA write-up, you state the below. Please provide an example of the calculation using the attached details. Thank you "The orb of planetary aspect to MEPs is converted to decimals and multiplied by 50. The product is then added to the birth year 1781 to obtain the year when the planetary influence on the MEP would have become fully felt (as per functional nature and houses involved) in the national life." Guest guest
Dear John, Once the influence has reached full influence, it stays there. In other words, the influence does not decline with age. A case in point is the aspect of L8 Saturn to L2 Sun in SAMVA USA chart: Year: Orb - influence 1781: 3° - 40% 1831: 2°' - 60% 1881: 1° - 80% 1931: 0° - 100% After this aspect reached 60% influence in 1831, the assassination attempts of US Presidents began. The assassination attempts then increased over time, especially since 1931, as the following list demonstrates. Assassasination attempts of US Presidents 1. Andrew Jackson (7th President) attempted assassination on January 30, 1835 2. Abraham Lincoln (16th President) assassination on April 14, 1865 3. James A. Garfield (20th President) assassination on July 2, 1881 4. William McKinley (25th President) assassination on September 6, 1901 5. Theodore Roosevelt (26th President) on October 13, 1912 6. Franklin D. Roosevelt (32nd President) on February 15, 1933 7. Harry S. Truman (33rd President) on November 1, 1950 8. John F. Kennedy (35th President) on December 11, 1960 9. John F. Kennedy (35th President) assassination on November 22, 1963 10. Richard M. Nixon (37th President) First assassination attempt on April 14, 1972 11. Richard M. Nixon Second assassination attempt on February 22, 1974 12. Gerald R. Ford (38th President) First assassination attempt on September 5, 1975 13. Gerald R. Ford Second assassination attempt on September 22, 1975 14. Jimmy Carter (39th President) on May 5, 1979 15. Ronald Reagan (40th President) on March 30, 1981 16. George H.W. Bush (41st President) on April 13, 1993 17. Bill Clinton (42nd President) on October 29, 1994 18. George W. Guest guest
Dear Thor Is the 100% influence at the same impact or strength as if the 100% aspect had shown up in the original natal chart without application of the 50 year rule? Guest guest
Dear Ben, The short answer is yes. The same applies in the charts of individuals, with the only difference that there the timing is 1° for every ten years. That said, this is not a rule to be interpreted with total mathematical precision, because much depends on the sub-periods of the planets involved. It is likely the growing influence (over time) is felt especially during the relevant sub-periods or during long standing transit afflictions to the relevant natal placements.
