Thank you very much for these indications, which I take the liberty to give a name. They will hopefully prove helpful for the rectification of mundane charts for a number of countries with such a past or present government.

 

RULE FOR DICTATORSHIP

 

In the mundane chart look for

 

as prime influence:

L1, L10 or L3 in H3

 

as additional influence:

L6 in H1, H3 or H4

 

As you note, the chart of a dictator is also important. If such personalities succeed in bringing a dictatorship about, however, it would also very likely be seen in the mundane chart for their countries. In present day Russia, Venezuela and Cuba the dictatorship development appears to be strongly linked to the person leading the development.

 

By comparison, in countries where the dictatorship extends to a single party, like in China, North Korea and Vietnam, with new people successively assuming the mantle of power, the tendency would be strongly evidenced in the mundane chart. For instance, in China, Vietnam and North Korea the ongoing development of dictatorship would be expected to be related prominently to placements in the mundane chart.

 

A cursory look at the 27° 51' Scorpio rising chart that we are exploring for China shows that it does meet these criteria.

- There are no planets in H3

- As the non-MT signs of Capricorn and Scorpio fall into H3 and H1, respectively, these houses have no MT rulers

- L10 Sun is placed in Virgo H11 (along with L11 Mercury)

- L6 Mars being placed in Cancer H9 from where it aspects L12 Venus in H12.

IT IS DIFFICULT.

If so, what would be the key guideline. Typically, the democratic form of government is considered benign and the dictatorial form of government adverse.

LORDS OF FIRST OR TENTH OR THIRD IN THIRD HOUSE CAN GIVE CHANCE OF DICTATORSHIP. THE LORD OF SIXTH IN FIRST, THIRD AND FOURTH CAN BE ADDITIONAL INFLUENCE FOR A DICTATORSHIP.

In the latter instance, as the following list shows, there have been some notable dictators in the world in modern times, although most of them have died, some still remain in power. Moreover, recently there have been indications that rulers of a few countries are in the early stages of assuming dictatorial powers, e.g. Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and Valdimir Putin of Russia.

 

This raises the question of what it is that explains such a development. To explain this form of rulership should one look to

- the natal chart of the dictator, such as the yoga for power through placement of the Sun

- the natal chart of the country, including dasas

- transits of slow moving planets through signs

or all of the above.

THE NATAL CHART OF THE COUNTRY & DICTATOR ARE RELEVANT.

If it were considered due to the Sun being a powerfully placed planet in the natal chart, would it be more likely to be a functional malefic planet?

's rule insights into the natal placements associated with dictatorship were shown to be closely linked to H3, ruling initiatives. This is an interesting house, because countries with a strong H3, albeit ones with democratic government, can have prominent initiative. One such case is Norway (7 June 1905, 11:00 AM, Oslo). It has a strong H3 influence in the chart, albeit not as per the new rule by .

 

 

16° Leo is rising in the mundane chart for Norway, with L3 Venus at 12° Aries H9 MEP aspecting its own house and L9 Mars in H3 MEP. In turn L9 Mars aspects H10, which hosts L1 Sun.

 

These placements show up as a significant tendency for social consensus within the country based on the strong state. Due to abundant oil and gas reserves, the Norwegian state coffers are brimming with money. With such a placement, Norway has exhibited tendencies to influence the course of action in other countries. Despite its small size (it has only 5 million residents), Norway showd vigor some 10 years ago to insert itself into the peace process in the Middle East by trying to find a peaceful settlement to the Palestinian question. It has also tried to influence the efforts of the UN to address world poverty or climate change. The Norwegian government has also shown an effort to influence the policies of the European Union countries even if it is not a member of the union.
