Few events are as disturbing to the American psyche as attacks by

foreign powers on their native soil. Two such attacks stand out in

modern history, the attack of Japan on Pearl Harbor on December 7,

1941 and the attack of Al-Quaeda on the World Trade Center and

Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Both attacks led to a fierce

retaliation. These events and the reaction of the American people and
