The 10œ Libra rising chart of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, is interesting. The source is http://www.astrotheme.fr/en/index.php and the chart has not been verified by SA criteria, but it looks plausible.

 

 

 

Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin (Russian: ÷ÌÁÄÉÍÉÒ ÷ÌÁÄÉÍÉÒÏ×ÉÞ ðÕÔÉÎ (born October 7, 1952) is the current President of the Russian Federation. He became acting President on December 31, 1999, succeeding Boris Yeltsin, and was sworn in as President following the elections on May 7, 2000. In 2004, he was re-elected for a second term, which expires in May 2008. He is Time Magazine's Person of the Year for 2007.

L7 Mars is in Sagittarius H3 and L3 Jupiter is in Aries H7 (recall 'rule for dictatorship'). Putin is known for his strong hold on power.

 

Interestingly, L11 Sun at 21œ Virgo H12 is conjunct L5 Saturn at 24œ Virgo. He shares having Sun in H12 like President Bush. The dispositor of Sun and Saturn is L12 Mercury at 30œ Virgo. As Mercury is in advanced old age it is very weak, even if in its own MT sign.

 

Rahu is at 27œ Capricorn H4 and Ketu at 27œ Cancer in H10.

 

L10 Moon is at 10œ Taurus H8 MEP, aspecting H2, contributing to his powerful status.

 

Putin served as a KGB spy in Germany during the final years of the Cold War. After the fall of the Soviet Union he became an international adviser to the Mayor of St. Petersburg (formerly Leningrad) and became involved with Gazprom. He moved to Moscow in the mid 1990s and was soon appointed by President Yeltsin to be the deputy head of his Presidential Staff. Yeltsin then made him Prime Minister in December 1999. He has become popular for asserting Russian power, much like Ronald Reagan did in the USA in the early 1980s. Putin has ordered military ships into international shipping lanes and aircraft to fly into the flight space of neighboring countries, necessitating scrambling of defensive jets to monitor the intruders. These actions have created tension with the western powers.

Putin is running the period of Sa/Me until August 2009. From mid May until early June, transit Mercury will be around 27œ Taurus H8 under the close aspect of natal Rahu and transit Rahu at 27œ Capricorn. This time, which coincides with the expiration of his second term as President, looks to be quite difficult one for him. Already it seems he will try to retain power to get around the term-limit set in the constitution, which mandates he step down as President in May 2008. He is set to become Prime Minister having earlier appointed a "caretaker" or "puppet" President. Aternatively he may invent and try to apply some other measure to circumvent the term-limit. We will soon see how he fares around May/June in the coming year.
