Friday, 26 February 2008: Britain's strongest earthquake in nearly 25 years woke up people across the country Wednesday morning, officials said. The earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale, according to the US Geological Survey, struck at 0100 GMT with the epicentre 48 kilometres south of Hull, east Yorkshire, 205 kilometres north of London. The British Geological Survey said the earthquake was 5.3 magnitude and the epicentre was in Market Rasen in Lincolnshire.There were no reports of damage or injuries. The tremor was the strongest since a quake struck north Wales in 1984. The 6.1 richter earthquake hit Britain in June 7, 1931. The epicentre was north-east of Great Yarmouth in the North Sea.

Transit and period influences: At the time of the quake, transit stationary Ketu is severely afflicting natal L6 Saturn in 12th house. Transit L4 Jupiter is conjunct natal L12 Sun. Transit L12 Sun afflicts both the 6th house MEP and transit L6 Saturn in the 12th house. Transit Rahu closely afflicts transit L8 Mars. Transit L11 Moon (dispositor of natal L4 Jupiter) in 2nd house opposite natal L8 Mars in the 8th house.

The Dogger Bank earthquake of 1931

The strongest earthquake ever recorded in the United Kingdom since measurements began was 6.1 on the Richter Scale. The tremor began at around 1:30am on June 7, 1931 with its epicentre located on the Dogger Bank, 60 miles (100 km) off the Yorkshire coast in the North Sea. The effects were felt throughout Great Britain and in Belgium and France. The earthquake resulted in damage at locations throughout eastern England. The town of

Filey in Yorkshire was worst hit with the spire of a church being twisted by the tremor. Chimneys collapsed in Hull, Beverley and Bridlington, and Flamborough Head suffered crumbling of parts of its cliffs. Rather less seriously, in London the head of the waxwork of Dr Crippen at Madame Tussauds fell off. The location of the earthquake in the North Sea meant that damage was significantly less than it would have been had the epicentre been on the British mainland. It was also reported that a Hull woman died as a result of a heart attack caused by the quake.

Transit L8 Mars was conjunct natal Saturn in 12th house and opposite transit Moon in the 6th house. Natal Saturn aspected transit Mercury in the 9th house. Transit nodes were conjunct both natal Nodes and the most effective points of the 7th and 1st houses.
