Guest guest
Hi friends, Thanks to the powerful print and electronic media, astrological awareness amongst the general public has increased considerably over the years. As a result even the scientific community,at least some of them, have started taking astrology seriously. However what most people do not reallise is that in this fast changing scenario, only sensational forecasts without any astrological basis whatsoever, hyped further by the media go under the garb of astrology. An example relating to the matter is that of the recent election to the post of President of India. The moment the search for a candidate for the post started astrologers on different TV channels started mentioning their favourites and none of these favourites included the candidate finally elected.Towards the end of the race when the name of Mrs.Pratibha Patil suddenly appeared from nowhere and it became apparent that she was sure to win an astrologer appearing on a TV channel said that she had a powerful rajayoga in her kundali and it was this powerful rajayoga that left the congress president and the others with no other option but to recommend her name. And what is more interesting is that since then the stock of this astrologer has risen considerably amongst the people. This makes me wonder as to how gullible the Indian public can be.The number of conmen in the garb of gurus, sadhus, astrologers that have fooled and even cheated the Indian public over the years is phenomenal. At times i also wonder as to whether there is this fatalistic desire deeeply embedded in the system of the Indian ppl to get cheated by such people.I fail to understand what else can explain such foolishness at least on part of the educated lot.Leaving aside the basic fact that what was said by the astrologer was in hindsight rather than foresight, any sane and educated man should have reallised that no genuine prediction about any election can be made by just looking at one horoscope.Obviously there would be many other ppl in the country having superior Rajayogas to Mrs.Pratibha Patil in their horoscopes. Then how come their Rajayogas did not compel the powers that be to recommend their name rather than Mrs.Patil's name.In my opinion the least that is expected from educated ppl is to understand that any genuine astrological prediction about an election can be made only by comparing the horoscopes of all the contenders and dicussing the positives and negatives of each.By showing lack of understanding of even such basic facts the people of India are making a fool of only themselves and no one else. The above example also shows the casual attitude of the media towards astrology.I do appreciate that the media do not know astrology but nonunderstanding of such basic facts as the above cannot be acceptable and shows only a lack of will in the media to understand even the basics of astrology. In my opinion the lack of will is there because most ppl in the media have still at the back of their minds this idea embedded in their mind that astrology is not a science or art but some kind of a magic. Can't blame them though for it is only natural for the media share the unquenchable thirst for miracles of most other fellow countrymen. However, having said this i must add that in the whole process the media cannot escape the responsiblity of promoting and imposing on their countrymen a few more conmen in this instance posing as astrologers. Guest guest
Dear Rup, I entirely agree with your sentiments. I think it is both the media who are after TRP ratings and Astrologers who are after free publicity that are to blame. I do not think that there is any way to predict that only one person having a certain combination will become president of a country, unless that is person is also contesting for the post and his other opponents have not favourable transit-dasha combinations operating at the target time and the person himself/herself is having favourable transit-dasha combination operating. If the raj yoga is, really powerful enough as is being told by the astrologers I would think the person will be his own master, not something we can say about the person referred, I am sure. Of course others could have different views on this subject. Regards, Chandrashekhar.
