dear group members ,

Though our all astrology texts including varahmihira says 18 jyothisha rishis the context of sidhantas available during the time of Varahamihira he said pithamaha, vasista ,paulisa ,romaka and soura sidhanthas are available now and soura sidhanth is correct and other sidhnanth with lack of modification from time to time lost its usuability (so think abt the time that might hav lapsed when a sidhantha can be obseleted ).And in some other stanza he quotes yavansa r mlecha s ( meluha culture -old meluha is harappan culture and in later period the name mlecha in assigned to people residing out of the country ) they are eaqual to brahmans and those who study jyothisha will respected by kings and even rishis .This quote is misintrepeting as indian astrology got its origin from greeks.

Those who dont even has a real predictive astrology .ANd whatever available in yavana jyothisha in india even the devatas are hindu devatas and the so called sisyas of yavana ( may be even name of a person or a school of thought ) are indians .

Even though oriental scholars has tried to prove that the Siddhantic astronomy is an original development, they could not hold their ground against the mesmerism created by the seven-day week and the Hora. In explaining Hora every one failed to take note of the Sanskrit equivalent of Horizon viz., "Hari-jam" as can be seen in Suryasiddhanta V.1, Pa´ncasiddhantika XIV.17 etc. In Brhatjataka V.17 `Harijam' has been used in the precise sense of `rising point' or Hora and as such the etymological origin of both can be traced to the synonym of Sun as Hari - Time, the destroyer. Further, in the ' very citadel of Roman Calendar ' we can find: Kalantharam ® Calendar; Saptambaram ® September; Astambaram ® October; Navambaram ® November and Da´sambaram ® December (10th division of sky). The Roman calendar originally had only ten months from March to December and hence the origin of these terms cannot be different. Does this not reflect that the Hindu wisdom reined over Rome even before the days of Caesar?

· What were the essential features of that wisdom? Where did the zodiac and astronomy originate?

· What forms or where is the real Indian signature in astronomy and astrology?

There's only one answer to these questions and that will dispel all the doubts about the origin and early development of astronomy and astrology. That is, Ra´si Cakram or Rahu – ´Sikhi Cakram, original Indian zodiac has a meaningful name that attests its originality, a fact that has remained buried under eons of time and hitherto unknown to the modern world.

As early as the 7th century the Syrian astronomer-monk Severus Sebokht wrote:

''I shall not now speak of the knowledge of the Hindus... of their subtle discoveries in the science of astronomy- discoveries even more ingenious than those of the Greeks and Babylonians- of their rational system of mathematics, or of their method of calculation which no words can praise strongly enough- I mean the system of using nine symbols. If these things were known by the people who think that they alone have mastered the sciences because they speak Greek they would perhaps be convinced, though a little late in the day, that other folk, not only Greeks, but men of a different tongue, know something as well as they''.

These words, I hope, shall serve as an eye-opener to all those who have professed a Greek parentage for the astronomical science - the Vedic discipline of Jyotihśastra.
