Astrology and astronomy in Oriya and Sanskrit language give us the proof about their existence through the availability of the abundant literature. He had written three books on astronomy and astrology named Bhaswati Karana, Satananda Ratnamala and Satananda Sangraha. Bhaswati Karana is based on astronomy and was written in Sanskrit, written in 1099 A.D. He has followed the principles of the great astronomical treaty, named `Surya Sidhanta' written by sage Maya. The book Bhaswati has many astronomical hints and guidelines including the movements of the planets, their positions, the constellations, solar and lunar eclipse, the art of the preparation of Panchangas, Ephemeris, planetary conjunctions, rising and setting of planets, etc. Sri Aniruddha has written a commentary on this book and Sri Trilochan Mohanty has translated it into Oriya. Another Polestar in this field was great king of Paralakhemundi, Sri Jagannath Narayan Deb. He has written the book ` Ayrudaya Koumudi' in Sanskrit in 1650 A.D. There are twenty-four manifestations and two thousand five hundred Sanskrit verses in it. He was the first astronomer in the world to find the eviction of Moon. There were some major mistakes in local panchangas at his time. He spent sleepless nights after nights to research inside his hut by making a hole in it. He has never used modern telescope, clock, observatory, etc. rather he took the help of the Sun-dial , measuring-rod & bamboo sticks for his research. To test his depth of knowledge the then commissioner of Cuttack Mr. Cook called for Samant Chandrasekhar to measure the height of the Saptasajya mountain through two bamboo sticks .His calculations came cent percent correct for which the British Govt. adorned him the title Mahamahopadhaya in 1894. Guest guest
Dear RK, I was asking Lalit about the source of information that he has given. That way the person who has compiled the information gets credit for this valuable information. I am sure there is much astrological text in Orissa that has not been available to public at large due to its not getting translated in English. Sometimes a mixture of Sanskrit and Udia language is also used in that region and therefore it might be great if the gems in that language are translated by the wise, who are equally adept at both the languages. As to the Tamra Pothi, one Tamra Pothi is at Kakatpur, about 20 km.s from Bhuvaneshwar, where Amarehwar Mishra reads it and there is no fixed fees prescribed. I know of this as during one of the SJC conferences at Puri where I was invited to deliver lecture on Chandra yogas, Sanjay Rath had arranged visit of astrologers to that place. There are two more. I think one is in Jhinti and another at Baichuan. Before reading they have to be energized and then letters appear indicating the question that is in mind of the querist, followed by the answers. They are like mantra nadis. Regards, Chandrashekhar. rk dash wrote: Dear Chandrasekhar Sa'ab, There are two places where we can expect to find them. I say expect. Guest guest
Dear Lalit, I had no doubt that you will access authentic info. Only wanted to tell you to mention the source so that people are aware of the authenticity of the info. Astro healing is a somewhat complex area and the learned have different approach to healing and there is a great deal of difference of opinion on what are can be healed through astrology. My views on the subject are a bit orthodox and may ruffle a few feathers, especially amongst those who profess that every ill of a chart is capable of cure through astrological remedies ( which are actually remedies of Pujas, mantras and gems etc, based on astrological principles). So it might be better if we steer clear of this at least as far as inputs from my side are concerned.
