Guest guest
Dear Lalit,Chandrashekarji,Sheevaniji,RKDa and Group, Some interesting thoughts on Karma Regards, aavesh Dear friends and devotees Bhakti is eternal. Share the wisdom with His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankarji. 38. COMPASSION There are two types of compassion. One is the compassion of the wise; one is that of the ignorant. An ignorant person’s compassion is toward the fruit of an action – to alleviate the sickness or suffering that he witnesses. But a wise person’s compassion is toward the lack of knowledge – to remedy the underlying reason for sickness or suffering. Compassion for suffering shows ignorance. Suffering comes because of karma and if you believe in karma, where is compassion? You reap the fruit of your actions. If a judge has compassion for offenders, then the jails will be empty. But are judges cruel to offenders? No. the judge’s compassion is for the lack of knowledge he sees, not for the suffering of the criminals. It is the criminal’s karma. Often people think compassion is an act, an action. Know that compassion is your very nature. Then you will see that karma and compassion are not contradictory but rather complement one another. 39. KARMA Some karma can be changed and some cannot. When you prepare a dessert, if there is too little sugar or too little butter, too much or too little milk, it can all be adjusted, repaired. But once it is cooked, it cannot be reversed. If buttermilk is sour, milk or salt can be added to make it drinkable but it can never be reversed back to milk. Prabdha karma cannot be changed. Sanchita karma can be changed by spiritual practices. Satsang burns the seed of all negative karma. When you praise someone, you take on their good karma. When you blame someone, you take on their bad karma. Know this and surrender both good and bad karma to the Divine and be free. Strange are the ways of karma. The more you understand it, the more amazed you become. Karma brings people together and separates them. It causes some to be weak and some to be strong. It makes some rich and some poor. All the struggles in the world, whatever they may be, are the bondage of karma. It cuts across all logic and reasoning. This understanding lifts you and keeps you from getting stuck in events or personalities and helps you in your journey to the self. Only human life has the ability to be free from karma. And only a few thousand aim to be free from it. Performing actions cannot eliminate karma. Only through grace can the bondage of karma be burnt. Contd . . . 40. Guest guest
OM NAMAH SHIVAYE Namaste Aavesh ji,, Might I kindly present my thoughts.. I feel that there are 3 words that are often mistakenly taken to mean compassion.. Pity or feeling sorry for someone, empathy and compassion.. Pity or feeling sorry is a situation where you blame the individual and say that it was his action/interaction in a given circumstances, lack of knowledge etc that caused the result.. eg,, a small child trying to catch the flame on the lit candles on the birthday cake..the childs action caused the resultant pain of burnt fingers..You may feeling sorry for the child but u still blame the child for being stupid. Empathy is when you try and understand what was going on in a child's mind, what fascinated him so much as to try and catch the flame,, as if it was a delicate beautiful butterfly sitting on a bloom.. Indirectly you are trying understand the child and excusing his behaviour.. Compassion is when you are sadden to see the child in pain, but you understand that it was an invaluable lesson for the child.. So from my perspective,, compassion does not interfer with karma.. Compassionate feelings are a response acknowledging human pain and suffering, understanding its causes, but with detachment knowing that there is a greater good being served.. Guest guest
Shivani Ji, Allow me to add - Sometimes compassion is a need, sometimes it's a fun or joy and some other time it's ego also. it's great to read ur post, how clearly u r defining such intertwined complicated concepts. regards, Lalit.
