Dear Souvik,

The Crux of Vedic Astrology (COVA) by Pt. Sanjay Rath records some observations on this issue. Generally, affliction to the Darapada (A7) shows that physical felicity between the couple might be lacking. Despite this, and other negative issues assailing the marriage, the external manifestation of the marriage may continue to subsist. That is, in the eyes of the people, the couple is still married.

This subistence of something that actually lacks some of the basic essentials of marriage is attributed to the strength of the Upapada (UL). Strictly speaking, the longevity of a specific marital alliance will be seen from the 2nd House from the Upapada showing the manifest features of that spouse. If the UL and the 2nd from it are strong, the marriage continues at the external, visible level even though there may be nothing in it, at the real level.

Contrariwise, the physical felicity between the couple shown by the Darapada, Yoni Koota and other determinants might be excellent and yet the weakness of the 2nd from the Upapada showing the longevity of that specific marital alliance might end the marriage. In this manner, one might strive to understand the Karma behind two individuals coming together.

Best Wishes,

Anurag Sharma.
