The fire hit the

CTA during the rush hour

 

 

 

Hundreds

of rush-hour commuters have been evacuated from Chicago's metro system after a fire

broke out underground in the US city.

A spokesman for the city's transit

authority said a section of the subway had been closed and hundreds led to

safety through an emergency hatch.

There are no serious injuries reported, but some cases of smoke

inhalation.

The spokesman said there

were reports that a train had also de-railed.

Police and fire fighters are at the scene of the incident

between the Damen and Western stations in the city.

The transit authority is saying that everyone has been evacuated

safely, after the incident at 1710 (2210GMT).

But trains were disrupted between the city centre and the Wicker Park neighbourhood
