Moon travels across the sky and around the earth through this pathway. Each constellation covers 13 degrees, 20 minutes. The concept of Nakshatra is exclusive only to Vedic astrology and is known to give much more accurate results.

 

Nakshatras are the backbone of astrology and were taken into account even before Sign system was considered. Nakshatras are considered throughout the astrological analysis. They also define characteristics and influence of the planets placed in them. Janmanakshatra is the Nakshatra in which the moon is placed at the time of birth. It plays a major role in shaping our thinking patterns, inherent capabilities and destiny. Because of being the pathway of Moon, Nakshatras are also known as lunar mansions.

 

Moon travels through one Nakshatra in a day. Each Nakshatra is divided in four sections called Padas or charan. Consideration of Pada is also very important during chart analysis as each Pada of Nakshatra gives a different result. Each zodiac covers nine Padas in total. Hence any zodiac covers more than two Nakshatra. The calculation begin by Ashwini Nakshatra which covers from 0 degrees of Aries, and ends in 30 degrees of Pisces covered by last Nakshatra of Revati. Moon visits the entire 27 constellations during the month, constantly waxing and waning in size. 1. Ashwini Deity: Ashwini Kumar (The horse headed twins who are famous for executing Medical miracles). Yoni: Horse. Gana: Deva. This Nakshatra attributes zeal, energy, magnetic personality, courage and inherent good qualities to the ones born in it. Subjects are generally very attractive and elegant. They are also quite keen about their looks. Ashwini borne, move, think and act very fast. At times their love for speeding can cause them trouble instead of efficiency. They initiate and innovate new things and projects constantly. Here, the qualities of horse is displayed wherever this Nakshatra makes its mark. Ashwini people enjoy good aspects in relationships, except for the fact that sometimes the stubbornness creates troubles with others. The heroic and courageous nature of all the people born under this star comes in handy while choosing professions like armed forces, Law enforcement etc. Love for speeding also lends the interest in favour of sports, athletics, flying, riding and business (quick thinking). Ashwini Nakshatra also provides the natives with healing capabilities, and one can progress to great heights in medicine and alternate fields of medicine. 2. Bharani Deity: Yama. Yoni: Elephant Gana: Manushya. This Nakshatra endows creative and mental inclinations to the person born in it. The person is intelligent, witty and constantly dealing with ideologies of his own or others. A fanatic loyalty to one`s own thinking can create courageous people who fight for their believes. The same tendency can lead to cases where the Bharani borne feels restricted by other`s thinking, and becomes a bitter opposer. Inspite of having Yama as their deity, people of this Nakshatra generally live quite long. Endowed by medium built, and fine teeth, the subjects do have love for fine things in life. Krittika Deity: Agni. (The god of fire) Yoni: Sheep. Gana: Rakshasa Krittika is the Nakshatra that rules Wars and aggression. People borne in this constellation are also very fiery in nature. They have a very strong personality, which at times can intimidate other people. At other times, the fire is well placed under placid exterior. Krittika borne native is generally aggressive, focused, driven individual with sharp mind and cutting tongue. There is a protective streak about people born under Krittika. Whether its about protecting the loved ones, adopting and nurturing an orphan, or fighting for the under trodden, the Krittika people surely shine out. Out of the 27 Nakshatra, Rohini was one of the most beloved queens of moon. She became the cause of curse on her husband. She is said to be Beautiful, seductive, pampered, and fond of fine and beautiful things in life. Much similar to her characteristics, people born in Rohini are elegant, seductive, and passionate, with good sex drive. But within themselves, they are constantly searching something or other. Ardra Deity: Rudra. Yoni: Dog Gana: Manushya Ardra means Teardrop. This Nakshatra signifies destruction and sorrow, just like its deity Rudra. Rudra is the destructive part of Shiva. Destruction is necessary for regeneration, and fertility. Hence, the intention of this Nakshatra is always creativity. Ardra born people are usually stubborn, control freaks, who easily dominate the others. At times they even hurt the people in the process. Hence, the myth is often repeated to suit Nakshatra with the characteristics. But these people can also be gentle, sympathetic ones, commanding the people and situations around them, quite effectively. They have stable, and strong personalities and are extremely effective in getting the things done. They like to renovate discarded things. People born in this Nakshatra can suitably direct their energies to professions such as firefighting and Law enforcement. 7. Punarvasu Deity: Aditi Yoni: Cat Gana: Divine. After the Bleak and destructive storms of Ardha, there was return of light. Hence, the name given to it is Punarvasu. This is a very pious Nakshatra, which gives intellect and honor to the person born in it. It also gives courage to pursue ones ideals and ambition. This Nakshatra surely lends an inclination towards religion and faith. Punarvasu people are honest and truthful to the core. One of the beauties of this Nakshatra is that even if a person looses everything in life; he/she can rise again like a phoenix, and rebuild his/her life. They have limitless inner resources, and no limitations to what one can achieve. This is a very prosperous Nakshatra, inspite of the fact that the native is not so materialistically inclined. The Punarvasu natives value family a lot, and their families are very fortunate to have them around. The people of Punarvasu are inclined towards religious career. They can also be brilliant Writers, journalists, and actors. They should take care of their diet and general well being. 8. Pushya Deity: Lord Brahaspati Yoni: Sheep. Gana: Divine/ Deva This is considered to be the best Nakshatra of all. The native born in this Nakshatra are intelligent, spiritual and selfless. They attract wealth (often upto the point of opulence) as their karmic reward. Pushya borne people are self sufficient, deep thinkers and philosophers. Pushya natives truly care about others, and try to uplift the conditions of people around themselves. They work for the underprivileged, and spread their knowledge through teaching. Sometimes the same streak can take the form of arrogance, as one tends to think him superior from others. Still, to be born under this Nakshatra is a truly priceless. People of this constellation do well in fields of social service, medicine, and teaching. 9. Ahlesha Deity: Sarpas Yoni: Cat Gana: Rakshasa. Serpent is the creature depicting poisonous capabilities, intensity and secret nature. Snakes also depict wisdom and Supreme form of energy of Kundalini. The Nakshatra bestows the above-mentioned qualities to the native born in it. The Ashlesha people are very intense, secretive, sexual, and fierce enough to get what they want. The ambition can easily be destroying his/ her enemies, pursuing one`s ambition with a single mind, or exploiting the powers of Kundalini for supreme enlightenment. Native of this Nakshatra are good at public services, politics, and family businesses. 11. Purva Phalguni Deity: Bhagya (God of Fortune) Yoni: Rat Gana: Manushya. This Nakshatra speaks of Rest, relaxation, marriage and union. People of this Nakshatra rely much on their inherent luck. They are very relaxed and happy go lucky in their life. Purva Phalguni people are blessed with pleasant marital life and children. They enjoy family life as much as they enjoy social life. Natives of this nakshtra are very found of parties, picnics and social events. Purva phalguni people are endowed with robust health and passionate nature. They are also inclined towards fine arts. This Nakshatra produces many brilliant artists. In short, Purva Phalguni is all about procreation and union. 12. Uttara Phalguni Deity: Aryaman Yoni: Cow Gana: Manushya. Phalgunis are known as marriage mansions. Natives of both the Nakshatra are best settled in marriage. But this particular Nakshatra makes the person more dependent in relationship, which often creates commitment to the wrong relationship as well. The people born in this Nakshatra also tend to be fixed and stable, and can focus mindedly work on their way to success. They are also very friendly and encouraging towards people. Their positive approach to people is an added asset to their successful living. The natives are also known to amass prosperity through marriage. 13. Hasta <Deity: Savitri Yoni: Buffalo Gana: Deva As per the symbol assigned to this Nakshatra, the Hasta people are skilled in everything related to hand. They are gifted craftsmen, healers, artists, palmists or even pickpocket. Hasta people are usually endowed with comic and clever wit. They are good entertainers and charmers. Vishakha Deity: Indragni (Chief and Fire God) Yoni: Tiger Gana: Rakshasa. The lords of this constellation, namely Indra and Agni, are also gods of agriculture. Anuradha Deity: Mitra (God of Friends) Yoni: Deer Gana: Deva Ruled by the God of friendship, people born under Anuradha Nakshatra are extremely popular as friends. Their ability to go along nicely with people combined with their diligence towards their work makes them highly successful, since they manage to create a sense of balance between their relationships. They are very loving and loyal to their loved ones. They also love variety, and travel a lot. If not so, they set up their career faraway from home. Anuradha people also have spiritual, and mystic streak deep inside them. That is the reason, they often dabble in astrology, mystical sciences and religion. 18. Jyestha Deity: Indra Yoni: Deer Gana: Rakshasa. Jyestha Nakshatra gives us the karmic pattern in our life through which we have the opportunity to unlock the reservoir of our personal powers, and emerge truly victorious as Heroes. Jyestha people have hidden occult powers. It is also the Nakshatra for summoning courage and heading on with our life. Like the eldest member of the family, a Jyestha born person have to take on the responsibility and power of his loved ones, wealth and business. Sometimes, they posses low self-esteem, and tend to seem arrogant and critical. They can actually summon this Nakshatra power to emerge as wise, experienced, and respected as the eldest member of the family. 19. Mula Deity: Nirriti (Goddess of Dissolution) Yoni: Dog Gana: Rakshasa Mula people are direct, and get to the basics of things. They are lovers of truth, and are ardent researchers. The Nakshatra`s deity is Nirriti, the goddess of calamity. The Mula Nakshatra can accordingly create many reversals in life. But more often than not, Mula people with their hard work, shrewdness and ambition, either manage to sidetrack the calamity, or overcome it, emerging as very successful. 20. Purva Ashadha Deity: Apah (Water Deified.) Yoni: Monkey Gana: Manushya Apah (Deity of cosmic waters) bestows this Nakshatra with a proud independent and commanding nature. Just like the manner in which water purifies us after taking baths, the native born in this Nakshatra have the constant urge to improve on themselves and situations in life. They keep on winning battles one after another, and hence the sign of "The invincible". Their asset is the huge reservoir of philosophical and emotional depth, through which they take easy command and precedence over others. This Nakshatra is known for declaration of wars. The Purva Ashadha people move towards their goals with awesome fearlessness, aggression and control. Yet many people born in this Nakshatra remain passive, or unfocused towards their goals in career and education. 21. Uttar Ashadha Deity: Vishawadevas (Universal Virtues) Yoni: Cow Gana: Manushya As the Nakshatra is rule by Vishvedevas (gods of dharma), the native born in its influence are highly virtuous. They have profound stamina, patience and durability. In such sense they are quite different from the Purva ashadha people. Vishawadevas can grant unchallenging victory to the person seeking its blessings. Therefore, the subjects of this constellation, when proven worthy by their integrity and constant ness of the purpose, are granted success in time. The natives are natural leaders, and are highly respected for their virtuous qualities and unbending ethics. They have the power (many a times dormant) to penetrate deep in spirituality. If taken the path properly, the Nakshatra can produce invincible spiritual leaders as well. 22. Shravana Deity: Vishnu (The Preserver) Yoni: Monkey Gana: Deva The literal meaning of Shravana is the "Ear". The natives of this Nakshatra are all about listening and learning. This constellation signifies eternal quest of knowledge. The Shravana people are restless. They constantly involve themselves in conversations, or listening sessions to collect information. A person born under this sign is either an ardent student, or a well-versed teacher. They can be excellent counselors, owing to their art of listening and giving advise based on their vast knowledge. A unique characteristic of the people of the Nakshatra is the limb section. A few of them are either disabled, or weak in early life, or they walk with the limp. Many of them are also characterised by their unusual gait. 23. Dhanishtha Deity: Vasus (God of Light) Yoni: Lion Gana: Rakshasa. As the meaning of "dhanishtha" implies, the natives born in this Nakshatra are either inheritors of great wealth, or accumulate it during the course of their lifetime. The symbol of this constellation is musical instruments. Accordingly, one can rightly decipher the musical inclination of Dhanishtha people. The subjects are natural leaders as well. This Nakshatra also provides many of them with fame or atleast a good reputation. Ironically enough, endowed with so much of prosperity, a usual native do have to face some marital problem or other in their lives. 24. Shatabhishak Deity: Varuna (God of Water) Yoni: Horse Gana: Rakshasa As the symbol of the Nakshatra indicates, natives born in this Nakshatra are natural healers and curers. Apart from taking medicine and surgery as their profession, they are well versed in unconventional methods of cure as well. The people born in the Nakshatra are inclined towards philosophy, astrology, mysticism, metaphysics and psychology. Yoga and meditation comes in their natural affinity. These people are usually very moody. Sometimes they share extraordinary good rapport with people. At other times, they turn reclusive. Their nature often confuses people with rather simplistic thinking. They are good at professions of mathematician, scientific researcher, accountant, and medicine. They are also known to be highly opinioned, and usually not tolerant of new ideas or opinions of others. They are also extremely stubborn. This may be one of the reason they often suffer setback in relationships and marriage. 25. Purva Bhadrapada Deity: Ajaikapada (One Footed Goat) Yoni: Lion Gana: Manushya. Purva Bhadra is the Nakshatra, which inspires the native born in it to reach for higher goals in life. The people born in it are extremely idealistic, and very passionate about their cause. They are also usually non-conformists and rebellious. They tend to acquire eccentric qualities, which give them a lot of trouble in their life. They have excellent oratory skills, which they use effectively to spread their convictions. 26. Uttara Bhadrapada Deity: Abhirbdhnya (Serpent of the Deep) Yoni: Cow Gana: Manushya Uttara Bhadra provides the attributes similar to the Purva one, but with a milder approach. The people in this Nakshatra are not so aggressive in conveying their ideals. In fact, many of them are upto the extent of laziness. Generally, The natives are of cheerful disposition, with protective streak about the loved ones. They have self-sacrificing tendencies. They communicate to few people around, and are very private. They love seclusion, and can be intensely psychic. 27. Revati Deity: Pushan (The Nourisher) Yoni: Elephant Gana: Deva Revati is the last constellation of all. This is the Nakshatra where moon finishes his journey to embark on next one. Revati bids it goodbye and assures a safe journey ahead. Same symbolism can be used for people born in this star constellation. They embark from this life to next with ease and comfort. The metaphor applies to all the travels as well. Ruled by Pushan, the subjects of Revati are responsible people taking care of others. They nurture and nourish people around them. They are loving and protective. The result is which that this Nakshatra grants them prosperity, and bid them farewell at the time of their death to reap the karmic rewards in their next life.
