Barely in black cloth

You had advised me to

Keep 1 kg barley in black cloth in the west corner of the house

pressed by a stone.

 

I checked yesterday and unfortunately rats have eaten the barley.

 

Shall I repeat the upaya and do I need to do some prayer etc before

keeping the barley ?

 

Also does the black cloth has to be a new one or can I use my old

black shirt.
