Guest guest
Dear Chandrashekarji, Jyotish is spoken of as the 'Chakshu' of the Vedanga. Varahamihira has spoken of the qualifications of a Jyotishi very eloquently. It is sad that Jyotish has become a tool for selfaggrandisement in the present times However.there are still some genuine Jyotishis who practice Jyotish as a Sadhana and these select few keep the flame of Jyotish burning bright !! No discipline need be as long as the use is above board. Astrology is knowledge of knowledge, ie the tool to know. As such the tool has great potential of abuse. People, in the name of delving into others' futures or in the name of decoding the patterns of their thought habits and desires tend to bend it to a sad shape. Thus, a man is mated with animal. All by way of chart-reading, if at all to malign a person. When the obverse happens, the poor 'yajmaan' is placed on cloud nine. Such wielders of the 'knowledge' are debased. They have no means to earn by honest labour. They beg, borrow and lie. The moment such avidya is peddled by astrologer (as in "I am a professional, I must charge my fee" no matter what bunkum I mouth) the downfall begins. Their ethics do not end there; a prodigal professinonal can flaunt a moral indignation of saying: "You will be my slave in the next life." Good heaven! I feel, the downhill journey starts the moment such craven 'astrological' utterances are made. Finer faculties of the mind will remain closed to whosoever so abuses the knowledge of knowledge(s). Yes, astrologers are prone to anxieties, to the extent that they know what is coming. To know such a thing is not an advantage for everyone. For some users it is a jinx. For certain others it is even worse. You are right no astrologer can be very rich. To be rich one has to be industrious. Astrologers (as in those who earn from astrology) must be prepared to walk the narrow and straight of life, not cruise in a car. That way lies their sadgati.
