Saturn's tamah (Where's the blood?...)

Lalit,

Left to themselves, Ju will be sattwik, Mercury rajasik and Saturn

tamasik. However, Saturn is not as tamasik as Rahu, who has the epithet

Tamah attributed to him -- the darksome. Saturn is called Manda, at most

-- the slow, plodding one. Saturn and Rahu are said to be consanguine,

with such a shade of difference.

Now Mercury. He is rajasik, but not like Sun. Mc will be more sattwik

than rajasik. And given lordship and tenancy, Jupiter can acquire

several shades of rajah if not tamah. I think Chandrashekharji will

shine further light on this. On to him, with respectful regards.

Dear RK Da,

I agree with your explanation about the nature of planets. That is why

a bhava gets strength if it is aspected by its own lord, Jupiter or

Mercury.

The blanket classification of grahas as Tamasik and Satwik is a bit

hazy as if the grahas were Tamasik, would we worship them? I think this

is something that one must ask oneself. Again there is a third

classification that is Rajasik, as you rightly pointed out. Where does

this then fit in? As to Mercury, it gives results of the planet it

conjoins. If conjunct

a Papa graha it gives Papa result and when with Shubha graha or alone

it gives shubha results. And we find Sun Satwik as well as Krura. I

think it is time that astrologers look at these words more in depth.

The expression Satwik, Tamasik and so on have many meanings, for

example "Tamas" also means dark. So planets that are strong in night

could also be called Tamasik. However as you have rightly said, when

Tamograha is refered to, it is only Rahu and, in the opinion of some,

also Ketu. This is because they can only be seen when they cover a

luminary, remaining invisible till then. Again Satwik itself means

Waxing Moon, Jupiter and Mercury. Yet Mercury is called Rajasik. So one

should think deep before classifying planets in to two distinct camps

namely Satwik and Tamasik.

Regards,

Chandrashekhar.
