Guest guest
Will 'Capitalism' Stay? (...or the title could be "It's all about communication honey!") "At least not the word..." so thinks the USA Chamber of Commerce which represents 3 million organizations. The word 'capitalism' was universally problemmatic - especially after the recent downturn which resulted in most powerful political leaders slamming the corporate world with a lot of disdain and shame. People tend to associate 'capitalism' with 'greed' and with 'powerful dominating the vulnerable'. The word 'free enterprise' represents the same concepts but does not carry those negative baggage. So the word 'capitalism' is likely to fade away in corporate lingo and 'free enterprise' gaining ground. Looks like there will be a $100 million campaign soon on these lines to ensure that people dont start hating 'Laissez-faire' which means 'free market' and 'free trade' 'Capitalism' and 'Risk Taking' are synonymous. Well.. not anymore. Many people think of casinos and throwing a dice when the word 'risk taking' is mentioned. 'Protectionism' which had a negative commercial tone is not so bad as it seems. People approvingly link that word with a sense of being 'protected'. 'Isolationism' is the potential new alternative.
