Dear Thor, the analysis of Antietam took my breath away. Anything related to the civil war or war of Northern Agression as it is sometimes called...makes my heart quiver. I don't know why.

 

But it gives us respect to the stars, the plantary alignments, that can so easily be dismissed as 'bad hair' days...that can also back such bloody and tragic events.

 

We need sincere prayer that events set to happen later this year and on going do not degenrate into killing fields.

 

People today often think...'it could never happen here.' I hope not.

Dear Don,

 

Yes, the civil war was an incredible event in the history of the USA. I share some thoughts on that and other issues concerning the SAMVA USA chart.

 

CIVIL WAR

If you look at the analysis for the start of the civil war, you can see that transit nodal stations over sensitive points can be quite difficult:

 

SAMVA USA chart: civil war starts in 1861

MERCURY - MARS period was operating at the outbreak of hostilities on April 12, 1862

* Transit RAHU (crisis) was in an applying conjuntion to natal 4th lord VENUS (domestic harmony) in the 6th house (conflict).

* Transit JUPITER (war) in 1st house was in an applying aspect to natal 8th lord SATURN in 5th house (violence)

* Transit SATURN (endings) in 2nd house (status) was in aspect to transit MARS (military) and natal MOON (self) in 11th house (future plans)

* Natal JUPITER (war) in the 5th house was in aspect to transit MERCURY (transport) in the 9th house

 

In the months leading up to the event, transit stationary Saturn (obstacles and endings) in the 2nd house (wealth) had been under the aspect of natal Rahu (crisis) in the 10th house (executive government). There was a huge build up of tension leading the Southerners taking Ft. Sumter in April thus starting the war.

In the months following the event, the nodes become stationary conjunct the 6th and 12th house MEPs. The nodes triggered a natal affliction of these house by the natal nodes, creating a crisis of conflict. This is when the armies steamrolled into one another and the bloodshed increased dramatically.

 

SATURN AND RAHU CAN BRING VIOLENCE

My analysis of the SAMVA USA chart suggests the planets Rahu and Saturn are the great malefics when it comes to bloody violence, like war or social conflict.

 

"The disturbing events of 1968 are easily seen in the SAMVA USA chart. The SATURN major period and RAHU sub-period were operating. The ominous conjunction aspect between the major malefics, RAHU and SATURN transiting in Pisces, with RAHU also aspecting natal SATURN accompanied the assassinations of King and Kennedy. SATURN is the lord of death in the 20° Cancer rising SAMVA USA chart and RAHU is a major malefic for all ascendants. As a result, tragic events took place followed by great tension. These malefics continued in aspect through the summer. "

MATURITY OF NATIONS

Let us hope that as the USA is about to complete its second dasa cycle (2*120 years in 2021) that it has gained more wisdom on how to resolve serious domestic conflict. Indeed, long standing efforts to eradicate racial prejudice, unequitable treatment of minorities and women and to ensure that the application of federal laws is even and helpful to all states and respecting of civil rights would likely have reduced the scope for such major internal tensions.

 

STRENGTHS/FLAWS INCREASINGLY FELT WITH TIME

That said, as time passes, natal aspects with an orb become more effective, granting more benefits (for apsects involving functional benefics) or problems (aspects of functional malefics) for the entity that is the USA as time passes:

- natal 8th lord SATURN to 2nd lord SUN (3° orb: full effect in 1933) - death or difficulty for president, easy gains, loss of wealth, death inflicting capabilities (nuclear weapons, weapons of mass destruction), death defying efforts (space, underwater or internal exploration)

- natal 2nd lord SUN to 7th and 1st houses (3°+ orb: 60% effect in 1879 & full effect in 1979) - power in the world

 

SLIGHT TRAITS ALSO FELT

There are placements with planets close to making an aspect at birth, but outside the 5° orb. There may be SLIGHT influences felt with the passage of time, such as for

 

- natal 6th lord JUPITER and 10th lord MARS (5°+ orb: 60% effect in 1967 & full effect in 2067) conflict over direction of government or military, increased fighting power

- natal FM RAHU to 4th lord VENUS (5°+ orb: 60% effect in 1984 & full effect in 2084) - (s)exploitation of women, manipulation of communal harmony or housing or vehicles

- natal 8th lord SATURN to 5th, 8th, 11th and 2nd houses (6°+ orb: 60% effect in 2019 % full effect in 2119) obstacles and endings for young people, speculation, income, future plans, status or wealth

 

THE NATURAL LIFE CYCLE - LONGEVITY

At the same time, nations like individual beings age and become less dynamic with time. Great empires have risen only to crumble with the passage of time, normally measured in centuries. Great nations have lasted several hundreds of years, then lived longer still as shadows of their glorious past. That said, the period of expansion of a strong nation is usually measured in some hundreds of years. We don´t know how long the USA will last as a dynamic collective entity, but the natal chart shows vitality and inherent strength. The question is what impact the flaws and challenges associated with the powerful functional malefics will have on the future development. If a supremely strong and healthy individual could live for 120 years (one dasa cycle), perhaps a strong nation could last five

times as long, or 600 years?

 

As for the longevity of the USA as judged from the SAMVA USA chart, it is likely to be good.

 

On the one hand, the chart suggests the entity could live a long life due to a strong 2nd lord Sun (vitality), 1st lord Moon (self, body) and Mars (energy).

 

On the other hand, the aspect of

- 8th lord Saturn (death) to the strong Sun (vitality),

- Rahu to 2nd house (owned by Sun)

- Ketu to the 8th house of death (owned by Saturn)

raise slight concerns about an accidental or violent death. However, as these aspects are not exact and the Sun and Moon are so strong in this chart, the demise of the USA as a living entity would be expected to be far off in the future, indeed.

 

PROBLEMS IN THE AUTUMN 2008

In the fall of 2008, while the Venus-Jupiter period is operating,

* transit SATURN in the 2nd house will briefly be aspected by transit stationary JUPITER in the 6th house

* both SATURN and JUPITER will then be under the aspect of natal RAHU.

* transit stationary RAHU becomes conjunct natal 2nd lord SUN

These aspects can lead to some problems, notably having to do with JUPITER (financial stability, conflict), SUN (wealth, foreign policy) and SATURN (obstacles/endings)

 

POSSIBLE VIOLENCE TOWARDS THE END OF 2008

* transit SATURN in the 2nd house will become stationary under the aspect of natal SATURN in the 5th house (obstacles/endings for easy gains connected to speculation and wealth)

* transit SATURN will that time receive the aspect of transit JUPITER (conflict leads to violence)

* transit JUPITER will, around that time, also be aspecting natal VENUS in the 6th house (disruption to communal harmony or concerns over financial stability)

 

In short, there are likely to be difficulties in the USA later this year.

We can also note that the MERCURY-RAHU period ran from 6 October 1861

to April 24, 1864, at which time the US Civil War turned much

deadlier. Indeed, RAHU is a major functional malefic in the SAMVA USA

chart, which afficts the 10th, 2nd, 4th and 6th houses, and widely

(slightly) the 4th lord Venus placed in the 6th house. The deadly

Rahu period was followed by the Jupiter period, the period of another

but a lesser functional malefic, as it rules the 6th house. As

Jupiter is strongly placed and well aspected, the Union sealed its

victory during this period.

The casualties for the total war, lasting from 1861 to 1865, are

estimated to number around 623,026. Hence, there were a lot of other

smaller battles and misfortunes to the general population from the

civil war.

 

Interestingly, The Union had on average 60% of the combatants in the

field in these campaigns, while the Confederates fielded the

remainder of the trops, or around 40%. The causalty rate reflected

this disadvantage of the Confederates, with the Union suffering only

20% casulaties of the troops in the field while the Confederates

endured a 26% casualty rate.

 

List members wanting to test the SAMVA USA chart can check out some

of these dates. While the Battle of Antietam was the single bloodiest

day, the Battle of Gettysburg, which lasted for three days, from July

1 to July3, 1863 was the single deadliest battle, with 51,112

casualties. It was also a very important battle for the Union in that

it turned the tide of the war in its favour.
