Guest guest
Hello Thor & Group: Having just read (again) some of the blog postings, I am impressed by some similarities between the charting that triggered the Great Depression and the charting centered on 3 November 2008: Tr-Ketu is on Lagna with Tr-Rahu 3 plus degrees and applying to N-Sun, Tr-Jupiter (FM) is on N-Venus, and Tr-Saturn is in square to N-Saturn . . . to speak to just a few of the obvious placements. It would be wonderful to hear some of the SAMVA experts speak to the differences in impact we will likely see between these two periods in time. There is much talk on the Net concerning the possibility of a coming Greater Depression - making 1929-30 look like a 'cake walk'. I am wondering if from a SAMVA perspective this talk is supported? Guest guest
Hi John, That is a very good question. In my view there is a salient difference between the present times and late 1929. In October 1929, the Rahu-Ketu period began. As both Rahu and Ketu afflict in the chart, and the orb of affliction had become fully operative at that time as per the 50 year rule, the pistol was cocked. At the same time, transit Rahu and Ketu were conjunct natal Ketu and Rahu and the house MEPs. This is considered the most difficult of all transits - the conjunction of the transit stationary nodal axis with its natal placement. Boom! A crisis erupted with a sound and fury rarely experienced before. See the analysis: SAMVA USA chart: the Moon's nodes and the start of... It did not help that 8th lord Saturn was transiting the 6th house while transit 6th lord Jupiter was on the 11th house MEP in opposition to natal Saturn. As the karma had become ripe and the institutional mechanisms to deal with it were still underdeveloped the malaise only deepened with time, reaching a nadir in March of 1933 with the Banking Holiday, when Rahu-Venus period was operating. Check out the many difficult afflictions present at that time... SAMVA USA chart: Bank Holiday of 1933 The period is now Venus - Jupiter and this will turn into the Venus-Saturn period in February 2009. During the Venus period the weak natal placement of 4th lord in the 6th house is being felt as difficulties with mortgage debt. While the transits are quite bleak during the second half of 2008 and into 2009, it does not strike me as having the quantum of difficult karma as the period-transit combination of the late 1929. That said, transit Jupiter, which rules financial stability in the chart will enter its sign of debilitation in December 2008. This makes natal Jupiter, transit Jupiter and the 6th house more vulnerable to transit afflictions during that transit. A year later Jupiter will pass into Aquarius and the 8th house during where it also becomes weak. So, financial stability will be strained during that time. More so as the sub-period of Saturn will be running during those transits. After Saturn enters Virgo and the 3rd house in 2009, it will aspect natal Jupiter, and this aspect will be stationary from March to May 2010. At that time the financial stability in the USA could prove very weak and vulnerable. So, the credit crisis is likely not over and we could still have some quite difficult days ahead in this regard. Hope these thoughts help. Best wishes, Thor http://cosmologer.blogspot.com Dr. John D.
