Hello dear list members,

An exciting event is taking place today, with NASA waiting for the automated landing of the space craft Phoenix that is about to land on the planet Mars.

It is possible to follow this event on net-tv: http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/

That said, as the radio signals from Mars take 10 minutes to travel to earth, the high-risk descent will take 7 minutes. Nasa engineers will therefore not know if the mission was a success for some minutes. Based on past missions, the chance of failure has been estimated to be 55%!

Astrology can also give us some insight if the mission will succeed or not, based on the chart of the launch. Phoenix lifted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 5:26 a.m. EDT on Aug. 4, 2007, aboard a Delta II-Heavy rocket. This is how the launch countdown unfolded.

http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/phoenix/launch/blog.html

The 30° Gemini is rising, with Mercury-Saturn period running. Natally, the Sun as 3rd lord of initiative is well placed in the 2nd house of status, with 2nd lord Moon well placed in the 10th house of the executive, albeit in old age and closely aspecting the 10th and 4th houses. 4th lord Mercury is also placed in the 2nd house, thereby gaining additional strength. Saturn as 9th lord of luck is well placed in the 3rd house of initiative and enterprise, albeit in infancy and debilitated in Navamsa. It gains additional strength being placed in the 3rd house and the sign Leo. Saturn is in mutual aspect with Mars as 11th lord of hopes and goals which is badly placed in the 12th house of loss or remote places. Saturn is just outside the conjunction with a strong Venus, as 5th lord of management and creativity also in the 3rd house. Venus also receives the aspect of Mars. Venus is thus quite strong in this

chart. Jupiter as 7th lord of foreign policy is located in the 6th house of conflict and good function. Ketu is placed in the 3rd house away from the MEP and Rahu is pairwise in the 9th house. The nodes do not afflict in the chart. The significant influence of the 2nd and 3rd houses in this chart suggest success for the mission.

The transit are interesting. On the positive side, 9th lord Saturn is now closely conjunct natal Venus and closely aspects transit Venus in the 12th house, which is also conjunct natal Mars and transit 3rd lord Sun. These placements suggest the mission will be a success. On the negative side, there is a worrying element involving the placement of Mercury at 27° Taurus where it is under an aspect from transit Rahu in 8th house. More so, as the nodes are also afflicting all the even numbered houses. That situation could bring difficulty.

That said, with the natal potential and influence of 9th lord, it is predicted it will overcome adverse placement of some planets in the 12th house and affliction by the nodes.

In any event, it will be interesting to see what happens.

Best wishes,

Thor

In the SAMVA USA chart there are both positive and negative aspects.

Positive:

- transit 10th lord Mars is opposite natal 3rd lord Mercury in the 7th house.

- transit 2nd lord Sun is opposite natal 10th lord Mars.

- transit 1st lord Moon is conjunct 3rd lord Mercury in the 7th house

Negative:

- transit 4th lord Venus is conjunct natal 1st lord Moon - both under the aspect of transit 8th lord Saturn.

- transit 3rd lord Mercury is under aspect from natal 8th lord Saturn in 5th house and under the afflicting aspect of Rahu in the 7th house.

As this is a space mission, the influence of 8th lord Saturn could only suggest the risks involved.

Best wishes,

Thor

Dear Vyas,

Thanks.

The interesting thing is to see MARS, the planet of courage and enterprise, as 10th lord in the SAMVA USA chart, highlighted in the chart when major achievements of this nature are realised. The 8th lord SATURN is often highlighted as well, especially in manned space flights, as it signifies the 'death defying' nature of such efforts.

Best wishes,

Dear Thor,

I think what needs to be emphasised is that the USA has just landed a

spacecraft on MARS and transit MARS is close to the ascendant of the USA

chart.

Transit Ve Lord of 4H of environment is conjunct natal Moon and aspects

Ma and 5H showing the possibility of gaining knowledge about the

environment. In this case it is the extended environment(beyond earth).

Transit Moon(at touchdown) is conjunct natal Me lord of 3H(neighbours).

Mercury is the planet of flight so this fits with the end of a flight to

a neighbouring planet.

The ascendant at Cape Canaveral for touchdown on Mars should be about

19+ Leo, the MEP of the 2H.

The transits for the NASA chart are also interesting.

This gives more support to the Samva USA chart. I think even the non

believers would be impressed.

Dear Ron,

Good to know you find the SAMVA USA chart promising. As for the specific points raised by you, let me note that, according to SA, we look primarily to the functional and general meanings of the planets in interpreting their influence. With regard to Mars in the chart at the moment of touchdown, in transit Mars is the general significator of courage and enterprise and as 10th lord the functional indicator of public activities. At the moment of touchdown, Mars was opposing natal Mercury the indicator of communication and 3rd lord of transportation, courage and enterprise. This placement is indicative of the successful conclusion of a challenging enterprise to land an unmanned spacecraft on another planet. Transit Sun, as general indicator of the head of government and 2nd lord the

functional indicator of status, was then opposing the natal Mars, which shows status for the people of the country due to their inherent courage and technical ability. I am not sure if Mars in the first house has meaning for the destination of the space craft, but it is certainly an interesting coincidence. The truly interesting thing is to see the SAMVA USA chart at the conclusion of other successful and important space missions. There Mars is normally highlighted as well as Saturn, as I mentioned in my earlier post. Your other insights are also interesting and, in my view, warrant further consideration.

Best wishes,

Thor
