IN SA, MERCURY IS CONSIDERED THE MOOLATRIKONA (MT) RULER OF VIRGO AND OWNER OF GEMINI. ONLY THE HOUSE WHERE THE MT SIGN OF A PLANET FALLS BECOMES THE HOUSE RULED BY THAT PLANET. HENCE, FOR LIBRA RISING, MERCURY BECOMES THE RULER OF THE 12TH HOUSE, WHICH RULES FOREIGN COUNTRIES, SMUGGLING, LOSSES, ETC. WHEN A FUNCTIONAL MALEFIC (FM) PLANET IS AFFLICTED BY ANOTHER FM PLANET, THAT IS USUALLY CONSIDERED MORE DIFFICULT.Also, Merc it is in trine with Moon North Node; and the Moon, at 5 Aries in spite of being in opp to the Asc, it isapplying a trine to Saturn at 8 Leo and it is the ruler of MC.

The shuttle Discovery is set to lift off from a seaside launch pad at 5:02 p.m. today in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The shuttle's seven crew members, led by commander Mark Kelly, are scheduled to perform three spacewalks and install a new room in the Space Station during their planned 14-day mission.

In the launch chart, 6° 23' Libra rising with Ketu-Mars period operating. 7th lord MARS is well placed and unafflicted but is debilitated at 18° 09' Cancer, while its dispositor 10th lord Moon is placed at 5° 13' Aries and 7th house. The strength of Mars is thus around 50%. Fortunately, Mars and its dispositor, the Moon, are well placed and not afflicted in both Rasi and Navamsha charts.

 

1st lord Venus is badly placed at 14° 31' Taurus and the 8th house but favourably conjunct 11th lord Sun at 16° 47' Taurus. While there would likely be obstacles concerning the mission goals there would be plenty of creative efforts to reach them, as also 5th lord Saturn is at 8° 25' Leo and on the MEP of the 11th house. Moreover, 3rd lord Jupiter at 27° 37' Sagittarius and 3rd house has 73% of strength, which is helpful to the initiative or launch.

 

The only drawback to this chart is the aspect of Rahu at 27° 30' Capricorn and the 4th house to 12th lord Mercury at 26° 44' Taurus in the 8th house. This affliction could spell setbacks or losses once the mission has begun. On the upside, the aspect has begun to separate and is not otherwise afflicting in the chart.

In the SAMVA USA chart, the Venus-Jupiter period is operating. Transit 6th lord Jupiter is placed in the 6th house in an applying conjunction with natal 4th lord Venus, with now a less than 4° orb.

 

Transit 10th lord MARS at 18° 09' Cancer, while weakened by debilitation is conjunct the MEP of the 1st house and thus aspecting also the 4th, 7th and 8th houses, which would be helpful. The placement of the 1st lord Moon in the 10th house in full strength would also be helpful.

 

The conjunction of 2nd lord Sun and 4th lord Venus in the 11th house would be helpful. The status and communal harmony would be helped by the goals.

 

However, it does raise concerns that 3rd lord Mercury is at 26° 44' Taurus and 11th house as it is now EXACTLY afflicted by natal 8th lord SATURN at 26° 46' Scorpio while also receiving the affliction of transit Rahu at 27° 24' Capricorn and the 7th house. The initiatives at this time risk obstacles and endings.

 

Typically, the charts of major achievements by the USA when going into space suggest a prominent MARS but also some notable aspect of 8th lord SATURN, suggesting the death-defying nature of the efforts. In most cases the launches have succeeded, but in some cases there have been catastrophic failures.

 

The above readings are indicating much the same dynamics. At the same time, the affliction of MERCURY suggests serious problems for the transportation or communication systems, including the computer systems. These systems could pose obstacles or risks to the mission.

 

A delay in the launch due to technical glitches is also possible, but would appear less likely.
