Dear friends,

Some days ago, I made a statement on the list concerning the weakness/strength of planets in transit. In an effort to clarify the issue between determining the strength of a planet in a natal chart as opposed to its strength in transit I share with you the precise description by for evaluating weak planets - including due to afflicting aspects of functional malefic planets:

Weak Planets

A weak natal planet is not capable of fully protecting/promoting its general significations and the significations of its mooltrikona house during the course of its sub-periods and during the triple transit functional malefic influences. By descending order of weakness, any planet becomes weak when:

1) The most effective point of its mooltrikona sign is afflicted by a functional malefic planet within an orb of one degree.

2) The most effective point of its house of placement is afflicted by a functional malefic planet, within an orb of one degree for mooltrikona signs or within an orb of five degrees for non-mooltrikona signs.

3) It is conjunct or aspected by any functional malefic planet within an orb of one degree.

4) It is combust due to its nearness to the Sun.

5) It occupies malefic houses from the ascendant, except if in its own mooltrikona sign.

6) It occupies its sign of debilitation.

7) It is in the state of infancy or old-age.

8) It occupies its debilitated sign in navamsa.

9) It occupies the mooltrikona sign of a weak planet. However, its strength would be in proportion to the strength of its dispositor.

10) It is the Moon within 72 degrees either side of the Sun. However, this is a minor weakness.

NOTE: In serial nos. (1) to (3) above, when the affliction is special or multiple i.e. when it comes from:

1) a conjunction with/ aspect from the most malefic planet,

2) an aspect from a functional malefic planet placed in a dusthana,

3) a conjunction with Rahu or Ketu (Rahu-Ketu axis)

4) an aspect of a functional malefic planet afflicted by other(s) functional malefic planet,

5) more than one functional malefic planet at the same time,

Then the otherwise "strong" planet should be considered afflicted (and weak) even when the orb of affliction is of two degrees.

When planets are placed in the malefic houses, they generally lose strength by 50% besides suffering through the significations of the malefic house. The placement in the sixth house can involve the person in disputes, debts and can cause ill health. The placement in the eighth house can cause serious obstructions for the significations ruled by the planet. The placement in the twelfth house can cause expenses and losses for the significations of the planet. When planets are placed in their signs of debilitation, they lose strength by 50%. When planets are placed in their signs of debilitation in birth chart and navamsa, they lose strength by 75%. A badly placed planet in

its sign of debilitation will lose its power by 75%.

Let us now consider the Sun in the SAMVA USA chart. In the chart, natal 2nd lord Sun is placed at 23° 44' in a non-MT sign of Capricorn and the 7th house. The most effective point of the 7th house is not afflicted within 5 degrees. Rather, it is aspected by a strong FB Sun. Hence, the 7th and 1st houses are actually strengthened by this aspect. The MT sign of the Sun, the 2nd house, receives an aspect from FM rahu which is over 2° in orb. Hence, this aspect does not have the potential to weaken the Sun. Moreover, the Sun is not afflicted within an orb of 1 degree by a FM planet. However, it receives an aspect by the most malefic planet, 8th lord Saturn at 26° 46' Scorpio with an orb of 3 degrees. In other words, while the indications of the 2nd house and the Sun's general indications may come under some

strain during difficult transits, there not be permanent setbacks to its indications. It is true that there have been 18 recorded assassination attempts on US Presidents, four of which have succeeded. The US has also had major finanincial and economic depressions, with a temporary setback for the wealth (related also to other weakenesses and afflictions, notably Ketu being conjunct the 4th house of fixed assets and the bad placement of 4th lord Venus in 6th house of financial stability and conflict). While some Presidents lives have been lost and many Presidents have come under great political pressure, the Office of the President, or the Presidency itself, has remained strong and of paramount importance in the political life of the country. Within a short time of such a tragic loss, the Vice President has stepped in the breach to become the President.

In early September 2008, transit Sun will come under the multiple affliction of several FMs, including

- natal FM Rahu at 18° Aries and 10th house

- transit MMP Saturn at 18° Leo and 2nd house

- transit 6th lord Jupiter at 18° Sagittarius and 6th house.

At the same time, natal Sun will be under the within 1° orb conjunction with Rahu (the nodal axis). As such, the indications of the Sun will come under a maximum transit affliction around 18° Leo. Even if transit Sun will be in its MT sign, where it is normally the strongest, with such afflictions, it becomes weakened. Moreover, the functional malefics natal Rahu, transit Saturn, transit Jupiter and natal Ketu will also be adversely afflicting or afflicted at that, suggesting great strain or some difficult events. More so as transit Saturn also becomes weakened by the difficult transits affecting the Sun at that time.

HOWEVER, when reading the transit influences we need to keep in mind the natal strength of the Sun in the SAMVA USA chart in order to assess what may likely happen with regard to its functional indications of wealth, family, relations with neighboring countries, communal harmony and status or its general indications of leader of country at this time. Likely there will be great strain in the financial market, on the reputation of the country and on President Bush at this time, but no permanent setback. We may also keep in mind tha has made a prediction that President Bush, based on his natal chart, will leave office with his reputation intact.

Attached is a graph showing the basic aspects which converge in early September, although some of them peak somewhat later in the month.

Best wishes,

Thor

Dear Professor,

Thor's revelation below regarding the loss of strength by debilitation has

brought some questions and comments regarding the quantification.

1) A badly planet placed looses about 50% strength. Certainly in descending

order of severity, we have 8H, 12H, and 6H. My thought is placement of a

planet in the 8H is much weaker than one in the 6H and the quantification

will be different. The same goes for influences by the lords of DH's.

2) A debilitated planet looses 50% strength. Both debilitated in Rashi and

Navamsa the loss is 75%. So this means that debilitation in the D9 chart

gives 25%.

3) Both debilitated and badly placed gives a reduction of 75%. This does not

add up. Debilitation takes 50% and bad placement takes the remaining 50%.

4) What % strength is lost due to 100% combustion?

5) There are 10 points below detailing the descending order of weakness. For

the proposed quantification numbers to make sense they must also show a

gradual reduction.

6) Gain in the SLH's or Leo gives an additional 25% strength. It has been

mentioned in the past that when planets are in the royal signs Leo and

Cancer, there is benefit (I recall Saturn in Cancer, oil rise discussion).

So is there a feel for the % gain in Cancer?

This is by no means a simple task. Thanks Professor.

Hello dear Mr. Vyas, Infancy and old age is already quantified.

Dispositor weakness is applicable for the planets placed in MT signs.

100% combustion should be read under conjunction. If the Sun and the combust planets are FB and if one of them is a FM or both of them are malefic - the position is already explained under combust planets.

Combust planet becomes vulnerable to transit afflictions.

Debilitation is navamsa is 25%.

Debilitation and badly placed together has been treated separately and this loss is to the extent of 75%.

Due to the volatility of the Moon no %age gain has been ascribed to the Moon.

Best wishes.

Strength of Planets - Sun in SAMVA USA chart

Dear friends,

Some days ago, I made a statement on the list concerning the

weakness/strength of planets in transit. In an effort to clarify the issue

between determining the strength of a planet in a natal chart as opposed

to

its strength in transit I share with you the precise description by

for evaluating weak planets - including due to

afflicting

aspects of functional malefic planets:

Weak Planets

A weak natal planet is not capable of fully protecting/promoting its

general

significations and the significations of its mooltrikona house during the

course of its sub-periods and during the triple transit functional malefic

influences. By descending order of weakness, any planet becomes weak when:

1) The most effective point of its mooltrikona sign is afflicted by a

functional malefic planet within an orb of one degree.

2) The most effective point of its house of placement is afflicted by a

functional malefic planet, within an orb of one degree for mooltrikona

signs

or within an orb of five degrees for non-mooltrikona signs.

3) It is conjunct or aspected by any functional malefic planet within an

orb

of one degree.

4) It is combust due to its nearness to the Sun.

5) It occupies malefic houses from the ascendant, except if in its own

mooltrikona sign.

6) It occupies its sign of debilitation.

7) It is in the state of infancy or old-age.

8) It occupies its debilitated sign in navamsa.

9) It occupies the mooltrikona sign of a weak planet. However, its

strength

would be in proportion to the strength of its dispositor.

10) It is the Moon within 72 degrees either side of the Sun. However, this

is a minor weakness.

NOTE: In serial nos. (1) to (3) above, when the affliction is special or

multiple i.e. when it comes from:

1) a conjunction with/ aspect from the most malefic planet,

2) an aspect from a functional malefic planet placed in a dusthana,

3) a conjunction with Rahu or Ketu (Rahu-Ketu axis)

4) an aspect of a functional malefic planet afflicted by other(s)

functional

malefic planet,

5) more than one functional malefic planet at the same time,

Then the otherwise " strong " planet should be considered afflicted (and

weak)

even when the orb of affliction is of two degrees.

When planets are placed in the malefic houses, they generally lose

strength

by 50% besides suffering through the significations of the malefic house.

The placement in the sixth house can involve the person in disputes, debts

and can cause ill health. The placement in the eighth house can cause

serious obstructions for the significations ruled by the planet. The

placement in the twelfth house can cause expenses and losses for the

significations of the planet.

When planets are placed in their signs of debilitation, they lose strength

by 50%. When planets are placed in their signs of debilitation in birth

chart and navamsa, they lose strength by 75%.

A badly placed planet in its sign of debilitation will lose its power by

75%.

Let us now consider the Sun in the SAMVA USA chart. In the chart, natal

2nd

lord Sun is placed at 23° 44' in a non-MT sign of Capricorn and the 7th

house. The most effective point of the 7th house is not afflicted within 5

degrees. Rather, it is aspected by a strong FB Sun. Hence, the 7th and 1st

houses are actually strengthened by this aspect. The MT sign of the Sun,

the

2nd house, receives an aspect from FM rahu which is over 2° in orb. Hence,

this aspect does not have the potential to weaken the Sun. Moreover, the

Sun

is not afflicted within an orb of 1 degree by a FM planet. However, it

receives an aspect by the most malefic planet, 8th lord Saturn at 26° 46'

Scorpio with an orb of 3 degrees. In other words, while the indications of

the 2nd house and the Sun's general indications may come under some strain

during difficult transits, there not be permanent setbacks to its

indications. It is true that there have been 18 recorded

assassination attempts on US Presidents, four of which have succeeded. The

US has also had major finanincial and economic depressions, with a

temporary

setback for the wealth (related also to other weakenesses and afflictions,

notably Ketu being conjunct the 4th house of fixed assets and the bad

placement of 4th lord Venus in 6th house of financial stability and

conflict). While some Presidents lives have been lost and many Presidents

have come under great political pressure, the Office of the President, or

the Presidency itself, has remained strong and of paramount importance in

the political life of the country. Within a short time of such a tragic

loss, the Vice President has stepped in the breach to become the

President.

In early September 2008, transit Sun will come under the multiple

affliction

of several FMs, including

- natal FM Rahu at 18° Aries and 10th house

- transit MMP Saturn at 18° Leo and 2nd house

- transit 6th lord Jupiter at 18° Sagittarius and 6th house.

At the same time, natal Sun will be under the within 1° orb conjunction

with

Rahu (the nodal axis). As such, the indications of the Sun will come under

a

maximum transit affliction around 18° Leo. Even if transit Sun will be in

its MT sign, where it is normally the strongest, with such afflictions, it

becomes weakened. Moreover, the functional malefics natal Rahu, transit

Saturn, transit Jupiter and natal Ketu will also be adversely afflicting

or

afflicted at that, suggesting great strain or some difficult events. More

so

as transit Saturn also becomes weakened by the difficult transits

affecting

the Sun at that time.

HOWEVER, when reading the transit influences we need to keep in mind the

natal strength of the Sun in the SAMVA USA chart in order to assess what

may

likely happen with regard to its functional indications of wealth, family,

relations with neighboring countries, communal harmony and status or its

general indications of leader of country at this time. Likely there will

be

great strain in the financial market, on the reputation of the country and

on President Bush at this time, but no permanent setback. We may also keep

in

mind tha has made a prediction that President Bush,

based

on his natal chart, will leave office with his reputation intact.

Attached is a graph showing the basic aspects which converge in early

September, although some of them peak somewhat later in the month.

Best wishes,Thor

" Due to the volatility of the Moon no %age gain has been ascribed to the

Moon. "

Does this mean only in transit? Or does it pertain to the moon in general

especially in Cancer or Leo? Or any other rising sign?

My personal moon in Capricorn 27 degrees, no depositer, so does it protect

its mulla sign Cancer by 60% or is it more...no neg influences? Ascendent

degree 25:48 aries. Doesn't that allow the planet so close to the ascendent

become more active?

BTW I have lost SATVA recieving nothing from that...is it still active?
