Natally, Rahu does not afflict but is placed in Taurus and the 5th house, where it creates some disturbance. At the time of the earthquake, 4th lord MARS was at 25° 38' Cancer and 7th house where it was closely conjunct transit KETU at 26° 26' Cancer and opposite transit RAHU at 26° 26' Capircorn and the 1st house. Transit KETU is also aspecting natal MARS at 22° 59' Pisces and 3rd house. The weakness of Mars in transit is increased due to the condition of its dispositor, transit 7th lord MOON was in Libra and 10th house when the quake struck. The Moon, in turn is weakened by its dispositor, 10th lord VENUS being at 0° 38 Gemini and 6th house where it was closely conjunct 8th lord SUN at 29° 19' in Taurus and 5th house. Meanwhile, 2nd lord SATURN, which is natally placed at 9° 34' Cancer and 7th house where it is afflicted by natal KETU at 9° 30' Scorpio and 11th house, important for explaining earthquakes in the country, is transiting the sign Leo and the 8th house, where it exactly aspected natal RAHU.
