Economic model predicts Obama win

I mentioned earlier that the condition of the economy prior to an election could have an influence on the outcome. The rule seems to be that if a recession begins half a year before an election the candidate of the incumbent party loses the election.

Interestingly, the economy expanded 1.9% in the 2nd quarter 2008. This has come as some surprise as the ongoing difficulties in the housing market and financial system had suggested the economy was rapidly losing steam. The apparent conflicting information about the real conditions may make it more difficult to apply the above "rule of thumb" logic this year. In fact, many commentators are struggling to make sense of the developments. That said, the above news story seems to suggest Obama will win due to the adverse conditions in the US economy.

 

According to the SAMVA USA chart, the developments in the financial system will not be easy for a while given the following adverse transits:

 

1. transit RAHU being conjunct natal SUN as 2nd lord of wealth at 24° Capricorn until October 2008 while KETU is casting a somewhat wider aspect to natal 8th lord SATURN of easy gains.

This transit should place a strain on the wealth of the country and hence the economy. However, such a development would come on the verge of the election, making it harder to sell by the candidate of the opposing party.

 

2. transit 8th lord SATURN in Leo is becoming afflicted by

a) natal RAHU and transit 6th lord JUPITER around 18° Leo in August/September, while afflicting natal KETU

b) transit 6th lord JUPITER around 26° Leo in November

c) natal 8th lord SATURN at 27° Scorpio in November 2008 to February 2009

These transits suggest all manner of upsets and problems.

 

3. transit 6th lord JUPITER in Sagittarius

a) being conjunct natal 4th lord VENUS in March, July and November 2008

b) aspecting transit 8th lord SATURN in September and November 2008

c) being aspected by natal RAHU in August and September 2008

These transits involving the sub-period lord, along with transits 1, suggest the financial system will be hard hit in coming months. This could have an unnerving effect on the populace, especially when JUPITER becomes conjunct (for the third time) VENUS is October and November 2008.

 

The chart is running the Venus-Jupiter period until mid February 2009, when the Saturn sub-period begins. At present the indications of Jupiter as 6th lord of financial stability and conflict are being strongly felt. As Jupiter is natally well placed and strong and receiving the helpful aspect of natal 1st lord Moon and not enduring a harsh transit affliction for some time, its indications should remain protected for the remainder of its period. The transit affliction this autumn (3 c), will however strain its indications. When the Saturn period begins, the indications of the 8th lord of easy gains, obstacles and endings, will become more prominent.

 

The things are therefore likely to remain rather challenging for a while, at least until mid 2009 and official information about a recession being underway may appear too late to be used by the candidates. The situation leading up to the election could be characterised by increasing difficulties on the financial front, which in turn could have a significant impact on the sentiments of the electorate. However, it will likely depend on which candidate can turn this to his advantage, including soothing the collective angst, that could prove decisive for the outcome.
