Dear friends,

We know that MARS in a chart is the indicator of ATHLETES. A strong and well placed Mars in a natal chart indicates athletes in a country will do well. Moreover, a strong and well placed and unafflicted 6th lord indicates a country does well in competition with other countries.

We have mundane charts for the USA and RUSSIA and both charts have strong and well placed Mars. However, the Mars in the chart of Russia has a slight blemish of combustion.

The USA also has a strong and well placed Jupiter as 6th lord, giving it a competitive edge. The USA also has a very strong and influentially placed Sun - making it a fearsome competitor, indeed.

Russia does not have a MT sign in its 6th house, however, their Sun and Jupiter are strong and influentially placed adding to their competitive ability.

If we look at the Olympic medals in the past four games (1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008) we see that the USA has been at the top for all of these games - and indeed has received the most medals in the 1996, 2000 and 2004 games and the second most medals this year. Meanwhile, Russia has twice received the second most and twice the third most number of medals.

Their respective achievement is fully consistent with their mundane charts (see below).

Interested list members may study the placement of planets in these charts at each of the games to further determine the relative placement.

Best wishes,
